What sells well?

I'll shortly be embarking on another round of attempting to de-clutter our home. I'll hopefully have a surplus of men's, women's and children's clothing along with various household items. What sort of things do people think still sell well on ebay? Thanks

It’s hard to say really. I’d say clothing generally doesn’t sell well unless it’s an in demand brand.

A good way to have a look is to search for what you want to sell then set the filter on the left to “recently sold items” and you can see how much they’ve sold for.

If you want to get rid of bulky / heavy items then Gumtree is usually a better bet IMO. Just advertise each item for slightly more than you want for it as people usually try to haggle you down.

Nothing at the moment. Well at least nothing I am selling as it's too hot. Maybe paddling pools and sundresses would do well at the moment. Ah well at least I won't have to queue up in a stiffling hot post office.

More helpfully if you do an advanced search for sold items on ebay you will see how many and for how much the items you have are going for and then you can make your mind up whether it's worth it or not. You are often surprised by what sells and what does not e.g. a lovely crystal cut glass (but unbranded) can be virtually unsellable but a scratched, coloured pyrex bowl is collectable and goes for a high price.

Branded items that people will search for.

I usually buy food quality Boden/Next/M&S dresses for work. I won't pay more than £30. I have had some very lovely items!

I have sold Boden clothing, adults and kids, for reasonable money. Adult stuff needs to be as new tho.

Also specialist things - I sold some outgrown cricket kit of ds2's. Also done OK with good condition athletic spikes. My best tip is to add £3 for postage then sell it as free postage - seems to appeal.

Seasonal stuff is best, although I have sold some things that people wanted for early Christmas gifts.

With 100 free listings, I just put a selection of stuff on there, it is surprising what will sell, just random things. BIN with best offer, you can set the price to reject lower offers than you want. Just list it, avoid anything like winter coats and boots for a while though.

What will sell best though is something with measurements and details of the colour, what it is made of. I have wasted many an evening wading through listings that said something like 'Next handbag, used twice' or 'Size 10 skirt' and nothing else. No measurements, colour, not a thing and no way of telling if it was pink, beige, taupe or whatever.

I have lots of HP ink to sell and I hope it goes.

Don't think anything sells that well in the summer. I tend to get better results in autumn /winter. I suppose people are away more likely to be out in the summer.

Childrens clothes bundle sell well in my experience, i usually bundle similar things like 4 - 5 pairs of jeans or 3 - 4 pairs of pyjamas etc. They don't need to be a big brand just decent condition.

I've also just sold a few small bundle of mine & DH's clothes. Again small bundles - summer tops/shorts etc.

Household items - not so much to be honest. I recently took a pile of dvds to cash converters, sold them for 10p each (had 80 so it was just about worth doing).

Kids bedding can sell reasonably but not really adults stuff.

Obviously this is just my experience!

Good quality clothing photographed well against a neutral background

I bought a white mannequin and photograph against a light grey wall
I clear out my wardrobe and my Kids a few times a year

Kids that sell well singly on their own - Joules dresses , Next baby complete outfits such as denim dungarees with matching Bodysuit , baby converse in box etc, unwanted gifts still with tags on
Any supermarket kids stuff goes straight into charity bag

Adults that sells well - current season / on trend items that are in great condition, branded items like LK Bennett , Clark’s , phase eight , all in very good condition

I iron everything and put on mannequin to show the garments

Anything big or bulky like Sleepyhead or Prams etc that no longer suit , I sell these on gumtree or Facebook

There is definitely money still to be made on EBay but people are a bit more discerning these days so nice quality items , well photographed and quickly posted out .

I have sold branded things that were quite obviously used, but made sure that the photos and description showed the amount of wear and tear. It doesn't make a lot of money but it is a way of decluttering.
I am tempted to put things in bundles e.g. 3 size 10 skirts.

BnWT children's school clothes has a decent chance this time of year. But prices won't be anything like what you paid for each item.

I've sold an unused perfume (Jean Paul gaultier) for £37 and some discontinued ray ban sunglasses (I switched to prescription ones) for £60 this week. I also sold some Vivienne Westwood sunnies (with one logo missing) for £12.50 and my BNWT mamas and papas maternity swimming costume didn't sell 🤷🏼‍♀️ so a mixed bag!

Certain bedding sells well, I have sold a few duvet sets. Random items too, it just needs someone that wants what you have, always worth putting it on there with good photos and description, but no tat. I have seen manky oven gloves and scruffy, bobbly clothes.

Clear photos, I do use a mannequin, but also take photos of items laying flat or on a hanger because sometimes people want to see them that way, also include measurements of every part of the item, the one bit you don't include will be the one that someone will want to know.

I do not sell shoes, consistently problematic. Anything else I will list. I have sold a variety of weird and wonderful items over the years, pet things, clothing, bedding, craft stuff, art work, china, ornaments, bags, exercise stuff, anything that is in good condition. Sometimes it takes a while, sometimes it goes straight away and I think I under-priced it.

I mostly sell women's clothes and unwanted gifts like sunglasses, unopened cosmetics and perfume e.g. recently Mac lipliner, Mac primer, Chanel perfume. These usually sell fast and for a good price. Womens' clothes are a bit more tricky. Weirdly, expensive or designer brands can be harder to shift. I find the bestselling brands are as follows:

Some M&S.

I only sell my own clothes (plus my mum's cast offs) so am usually selling sizes 8, 10 and 12. However, my friend who buys at car boots and sells on ebay for a living says larger sizes (sizes 16-22) go quicker and reach a higher price.

Not much luck with shoes, always have to sell them off at a lower price even if designer brand. Last year sold a pair of unworn designer sandals for a tenner and the buyer sent me a lovely email saying how lucky she felt and that they were the best things she'd ever bought on ebay. Made me feel a bit better!

I also wash and iron everything very carefully and post the maximum number of photos.
