How to post a camera lens. Help!

I've sold a camera lens for around £500.

Took it to post and the post office won't insure camera lenses.

Coincidentally I had a lens delivered a few days later by dpd so they obviously ship them, however their terms and conditions say no glass items plus I cannot find anywhere on the online form to insure it.

DPD's helpline needs a shipping number to progress past the automated bit.

I'm running out of time to post and would really appreciate any advice.

Maybe see if you can you can take out your own insurance and see if couriers will take it on that condition?

I wonder if you could try the post office again/a different branch. I had a nose around their t&c's and couldn't find an exclusion about from a general one if not package properly and not labelled fragile. Maybe tweet them?
