Ebay Shutl : what fresh hell is this?

Aw nuts, help!!

I sold some unused swim goggles on BIN.
I don't remember selecting Shutl for delivery as part of a listing, but either I did select it or Ebay has magically imposed it upon me. I'm flummoxed how to use it. Never heard of it before tonite.

It looks like I can use Shutl to print a label for Royal Mail.
I'd prefer to send this item with MyHermes, actually, but I can't see that's an option... did I choose Royal Mail by mistake ... are shutl & Royal Mail are being imposed on me by Ebay-corp? Normally I prefer to pay real cash to a real post office so they benefit not via Ebay.

arrgggh

Same happened to us at the end of last year. shutl are owned by eBay. They're a mail agent so your parcel will be sent via whichever courier they choose.

Be careful, should the parcel go missing you will have all hell on to get compensation. I think it's limited to £20 but with very tight time limits.

Mine always goes via myHermes with Shutl. I think I have the option of Collect plus too, but it's more expensive. I just click to print the postage label, it makes me fill in a form then gives me the label to print and I drop it at a shop down the road.

MUST I use Shutl; is this some new Ebay rule that we must use it? Can I use another service & just upload tracking info; would uploading tracking info fail?

Do Shutl only charge the amount they say for each parcel, or is there an extra admin fee (I'm reading some people had ongoing monthly fees)

Do I have to set up a paypal connection to pay the shutl bill? (I'm reading that is part of the hassle)

What a load of hassle :(.

This page says
"Shutl are merely the booking agent. The parcel still goes via Hermes in the same way it would had you booked direct or via one of the other agents. The buyer still gets his parcel from Hermes. If you put Shutl 3-5 days on your listing, that is the Hermes service so the buyer is none the wiser, if you see what I mean."

Does that mean I can use MyHermes even though Shutl is how the item is listed, and Shutl only wants to offer me Royal Mail for the service?

Am very grateful for people answering my questions. Having a low day & really don't want this stress.

oh wait... so now I MUST use whatever courier service Shutl chose for me?

ooerrmissus, what do you mean about time limits, limited time to claim compensation for item gone missing?

You can select whichever service you want via Shutl ie Royal Mail or MyHermes, depending on size and weight. You don't have to use it but it will put something on as a default.

I can't give too much detail, but basically we sent an expensive item via shutl which they promptly lost. We got passed from pillar to post until shutl finally decided they had no idea where it was. By this time eBay and PayPal were all investigating and in all that confusion we missed the deadline for claiming compensation, which would have been paltry anyway.
It got resolved in the end (DH being a tenacious type, he's like a dog with a bone when he feels swindled ) but it was so much stress.
The problem we had was, like you we just clicked on the print label button and before you know it you've selected a courier service even if it's not the one you would have chosen if it had been clearer.
Shutl will be fine if the parcel isn't worth too much, but if you need insurance I'd be minded to send via recorded delivery or whatever you would normally use.

Nb i don't claim to be an expert, the experience was so awful we've not sold on eBay since. Smile

Instructions how to decline Shutl on this thread.

When I click on postage service for the item I just sold. it only says Shutl, so I don't know what actual service I put down for the buyer... could be RM or myhermes; was only giving me RM as choice.

Apparently I used Shutl last in September 2017, paid £3.05 (really??; no memory of it before). I have never used Ebay to print postage labels.

And then I'm reading Shutl adds VAT to their bill on top of the postage charge they state they are charging me...

Anyway, I've followed those instructions to try to get it off my Ebay completely & will post item via RM tomorrow (X fingers no problems doing that).

Thanks for the heads up OP I’ve just cancelled it in PayPal

I click on the print a label link, copy the address on to the parcel and then go back to My Ebay. Double check the address with PayPal and Ebay View Order Details link, use stamps or take to Post Office for a label.
Then enter tracking into Ebay.

I have used Shutl for returns of purchases and they very kindly charged my husbands PayPal account even though I had removed the card from mine, which was a pain to sort out, it is not secure so I won't use it.
