Selling a car on eBay for £350, not much but important I get the money.

Guy wants to buy it but doesn’t get paid until end of week, has £100 to give me a deposit. I’m happy to do this (no other real interest in car, listing ends tonight) - communicated everything through eBay etc.

However how do I get the money from him - PayPal charges fees but is it worth it? Could he just do it via bank transfer? Should I be asking for ID or anything?

And then what do I do with the eBay listing as technically he hasn’t bought it for the BIN price yet?

Ahh!! Novice!!!! TIA

Could he come to your house on Friday evening and give you the £350 in cash. Just let the auction end. Re list Saturday if he doesn't show up.

I've done this on small value items before haven't had to pay any listing fee. Not sure if Ebay flag up higher value items, I think phone's/email addresses get flagged up Confused

Hopefully someone else will be along soon!

ps, I just sent my buyer my address via Ebay messages. They lived local. How far is your guy from you?

Thank you, not local, no. Good idea about letting the auction end!

See what he says OP. Like you say, no one else interested atm, less complicated at least. Ebay will charge you around £35 for that else.

When does he plan to collect the car? Isn't cash when he collects it safer? Assuming you can spot a forged note? Tell him to bring 20s and 10s, not 50s maybe. Hopefully someone with more experience will be along later. He can't get cash back from you later, but he might claim a paypal or bank transfer back??

but he might claim a paypal or bank transfer back??

You can’t reclaim a bank transfer.

A bank transfer is safest but As long as you check the notes then cash will be fine.

Thanks everyone! Good point on cash and bank transfer. I’m not even sure he’s going to turn up to be honest, being very flakey. Here’s hoping.
