Buyer wants to pay cash and to collect in person

I've sold an item of clothing for £5. Usually I'd pop in the post tomorrow morning on my way to work, if I'd received payment.

Buyer has said they want to pay cash and have asked for my exact address and a collection time.

I like PayPal, and want anyone coming to collect, really.

I've said if they pay by PayPal I'll give them my address and a time.

Have I done the wrong thing? They probably now think I'm an arse, but their message was very abrupt (only afterwards did I think English may not be their first language, and they could actually be nice and reasonable. Shall I message back to say if they come this evening, or Saturday evening they can pay cash? Confused

Never take PayPal for collection items OP. The buyer could then say they didn't receive the item and get a refund.

The chance of being scammed over something worth £5 is slim to none, but the general rule is never accept PayPal for a collection item, cash only.

The buyer can claim they received it, and you can’t prove otherwise, so PayPal will decide in their favour, leaving. You with no item and no cash. And despite what anyone else might say, getting them to sign something when they pick up the item won’t make a jot of difference. To win a not received case a buyer must provide online tracking details to prove an item has been delivered to the address accompanying the PayPal payment.

OK, I've said they can pay cash and collect this evening (have given them my address).

Is it a bit naughty of them to want to do this when it wasn't offered in the listing?

Is it naughty? No.

I think you have to specifically uncheck the collection option when you list the item. They wouldn’t have been able to complete the purchase if they hadn’t been able to select collection as the delivery method.

I thought I'd permanently set no collection etc....will have a look at settings as I was listing from my phone.

Buyer has now realised I live nowhere near them and have asked me to post the item!

So when they asked me to post the item, they said they'd paid...I almost posted it, but checked and they haven't paid. I pointed this out to them and they've asked for my bank details....I've asked them to pay by PayPal.

Is it a scam? Hmm

Sounds a bit suspicious. I think I might be tempted to cancel the sale. It's got, 'item never arrived' written all over it.
