Can you lower the reserve price once the bidding has started?

I am selling something on behalf of my DM. We agreed on the reserve price that I would set for it, but I don't think that the bidding will go that high (auction finishes in a few hours).

Is it possible to bring the reserve price down mid-auction to ensure the item gets sold?

I have tried using the "revise your item" link, but it doesn't seem to work.

I'm just thinking that if the item doesn't sell, I will just have to re-list it with a lower reserve price - is that right?

Many thanks for any advice!

Just relist with lower reserve, I think, is simplest solution.

ps... don't set a reserve at all. Just set the start price = your reserve.

You do know to set a reserve on an item is quite expensive? It will be added on to your fee. There are ways around not setting a reserve. i.e start the auction off at the lowest amount you would be willing to accept. Or on buy it now set it at the price you would like for the item, or on buy it now you can give buyers option to make offers. Make a offer price the lowest amount you would accept as the offer.
I really wouldn't bother with a reserve unless it's something really expensive and you are setting the auction at a low price purposely to generate a lot of interest/bidding, and you would be away etc, not being able to monitor your eBay, so the auction would run but with peace of mind that it won't go for less than you are willing to accept.

Also you can't revise any item if it has 12 hours or less remaining. You can only revise items if they have more than 12 hours left.
Just so you know.

Hi everyone,

Many thanks for all your helpful answers!

In the end, the item didn't reach the reserve price and my mum decided she didn't want me to re-list it, so I give up!

If I do try and sell something else, I won't bother setting a reserve price, as it seems to be more trouble than it's worth!

Thanks again!
