Seller returned wrong item?

Sold some clothing. Buyer contacted saying they were not happy as the item was damaged. I apologised as I hadn't noticed and offered to return for a refund. They opened a PayPal case. They have returned the item via recorded delivery and uploaded the details onto the PayPal case. But the item they've sent back isn't the one I sold! I've messaged them and they claim that's what they received but it isn't! I've never seen this item before in my life, what do I do?

Contact EBay and tell them - they might be able to recognise the item from the buyer's purchase history?

How much was the item? I think this is a scam. They return, you are obliged to refund, they get the item for the cost of return postage.

So does the item they received match the photo of what you sent?

Yet they claim damage, not wrong item?

It's completely different. I sold a dress and they returned trousers. And yes they reported damage to the zip. PayPal has already refunded them!

You need to go to eBay if so. Surely a wrong item would have been put as reason for return not damaged zip!

That is what they have said when I messaged saying you've returned the wrong item. They said that was the item that was sent.

Ok contact eBay - Maybe its raise a dispute? Someone more knowledgable on eBay will know exactly how to contact them.

Bullet point what has happened i.e.
09/03 posted dress signed for
11/03 received by buyer
11/03 buyer said zip broken. I apologised and agreed they could return.
12/03 Paypal refunded them due to broken zip
12/03 received brown trousers
12/03 contacted buyer they said they received trousers from me.

Why would buyer return saying zip broken and not due to wrong item. I would like paying for my item as it's clear that they received the correct item.

Raise a dispute with PayPal too. Yet another eBay scammer shithead.
I've stopped using it due to people like this.
