Ordered a dvd from eBay around 10 days ago. With the weather as it was last week, I half expected it might be delayed so wasn't overly worried when it didn't arrive straight away. Seller provided a tracking number but it wouldn't work on the normal Royal mail website. It didn't arrive in this mornings post and I was passing the delivery office by chance so stopped in to check it wasn't waiting to be picked up. It wasn't but the guy on the desk was very helpful. He took the tracking number I had and typed it into his computer.. RM's records indicate that despite the tracking number the dvd was never posted. He gave me a print out that proves it. So do I go straight to ebay or do I contact the seller for an explanation first?

It's normal practice to contact the seller first. What rating and reviews does the seller have?
You have plenty time to open a dispute.

You don’t have to, but it’s good etiquette to contact the seller first before opening a case.

Send them a message telling them you haven’t received the Item, the tracking number they provided is invalid and you have been to Your local depot, who don’t have the item.

If you don’t get a satisfactory response within 48 hours, then open a not received case with eBay .

Thanks for the replies. I've left the seller a message. I haven't told him what RM told me this morning yet. It's quite an unusual dvd, and because I'd been waiting for a while for one to become available I purchased it immediately without checking his feedback. Unfortunately there's also a few other people complaining there items are taking weeks to arrive... If at all. Seems I'm not the only one. Will avoid him in the future
