Duty to return if business seller item damaged?

I've received a low value kitchen item (under £10) in a damaged and unusable state. I'd normally return the item but my printer's not working and I don't especially fancy a trip to the post office in this weather.

Do I have an obligation to return it to receive a refund? I've sent photos as requested and the seller is satisfied (ebay shop/ business seller).

Just wondering as in the past I've had sellers tell me to dispose of the item and they've issued a refund. I'm usually happy with either scenario but it's not very convenient this week and I just want it sorted.

Of course you do.

The seller may tell you to keep it and refund anyway, but that’s at their own discretion.

There’s no rush to send it back, you have 28 days from when you opened the return request.

Thanks lottie! I so rarely need to return anything from ebay I'd forgotten the protocol Blush

If you send them a picture they might refund. I've got a replacement by sending a pic before ..

Thanks Shen, they requested a photo and asked me to trigger the returns process via ebay. But they've actually refunded me instead, I was all set to package it up Smile

I would send it tbh as it prevents any complaints later on, but you ha e a while to do it Smile

bobby the seller has refunded off their own back so no need to send it back, they can’t raise a complaint down the line.
