just wondering, and it will prob turn up tomorrow, but I got something on ebay last sunday, paid by cheque monday (posted 1st class) was received and cashed on thursday (that's the day it left my account) and as of yet i've had nothing, I understand with the w/e & might not have been able to post out asap sort of thing (I take sometime with ebay getting to the PO etc if thing's are going on at home etc) but just wondering if I should drop a quick line tomorrow or not? haven't had any emails or anyrthing suggesting it's been shipped yet (which I know not everyone does thou)

what do u think?

I would just email and ask if it has been sent yet.

Most ebayers wait until the cheque has cleared ie 4-5 working days before posting the item to be safe that it doesn't bounce.

munz · 30/04/2007 18:49

do you mean 4/5 days after the cheque's cleared or from the day of cashing - as I say it will prob turn up tomorrow now.

I would mail them tomorrow if it doesn't arrive by then.

I have had a seller forget to send. More than a week after paying, I sent a friendly email enquiring about despatch. I did not get a response but got the item a day later via first class, postmarked the date of my reminder! Still gave positive feedback. Afterall, we are all human

slalomsuki · 30/04/2007 19:30

I mean 4-5 days from the day they present it to their bank before they then send it to you. So it could be 5 days plus say 3 days for second class post making 8 working days in total before you get it. Ebay say wait 2 weeks before you post a dispute. They should have mentioned it in their payment section

ok just double checked, it says at the bottom,
"Cheques/Postal Orders/Bakers Drafts to be recieved within 7 days (Item will be dispatched on clearance off the cheque)"

so it was recieved and cashed by seller within 4 days (not allowing for the sunday day auction ended)

I paid for 1st class mail so really it should have come on sat - but as I say I do understand what it's like with a young family etc.

will deffo email tomorrow if it's not come and see what's happening as tbh i've paid £3 for postage first class and will be miffed if it's sent 2nd or something - althou I suppose seller might not have realised cheque was cleared yet - esp if she's not checked her a/c?

thanks for your help btw.

You need to be aware that just because the money has left your account it doesn't necessarily mean that they have got the money in to theirs yet. A cleared cheque is one which means it has had the moeny transferred(all be it on paper) from your bank to theirs.

So if the money left your account on Thursday then the 4 days would be Friday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday before the cheque has cleared to them and then they should send it. So you may not get it until Friday this week

I would email them neverthe less to cheque everything is OK

munz · 01/05/2007 16:57

nothing as of yet - i've decided i'll wait till friday as you say I don't knwo what's happening/what bank they're with etc. (assuming they're from my bank then it would go the same day - I guess I was being a bit forward in thinking once it had left me i'd get it asap iycwim. will email on friday as I don't want to appear pushy and risk neg FB.

If it was banked on the 26th it could take a week to clear, so that takes it to yesterday.
The seller may need to go to the bank to find out if all cheques have cleared, she may phone the bank or use internet banking.
I'd guess she could well be preparing the send the parcel today.
She will have your address already - but that said, if you didn't enclose details of which item you were paying for etc you may have to wait longer for her to match the cheque to the item.

I often get cheques through the post, just a cheque...nothing else. I then have to go through all the sales to try and match it up. Sometimes it isn't obvious (for eg if the name on the cheque is different to the ebay name) and then I have to email buyers and ask for 'clues' about their payment. This all can cause a delay.

munz · 04/05/2007 10:32

do you think I should wait till next week then? I would have thought she'd at least respond to my email thou.

right nothing came on sat and i've still not had any emails do you think it's a bit much if I email again on tues if nothing comes then (I'm sure it won't on monday) but the time'ssgetting on now. and I would have thought she'd have at least emailed me, I have a nasty feeling thou she's not got the stock and is waiting for her delivery (it's avon stuff)

she could be away over the bank holiday weekend. and there wont be post tomorrow.

do you have record of the cheque number, ask her if you sent your details it was cheque number for £xx amount and the name on the cheque.

munz · 06/05/2007 11:05

yes i've jsut emailed her again, she's got 99.6% FB so that's why I bid. I don't want to risk a neg FB thou - don't think she can give me a neg as althou i've sent 2 emails (one thurs one today) i've been poliet in all of them. hoping not to get a neg.
