Sold a damaged electrical item for not much and buyer paid promptly after auction end.

Was spares / parts only and potential buyer is currently selling similar so all good so far.

Posted to address on pp but then 24 hours after the auction end I get 3 messages from the buyer

1 : the address is not right it should be x ( opposite end of the country )

Sorry I replied already posted do you now anybody there , friends neighbours etc

  1. You were given the wrong address as my eBay Account has been hacked

3 scam I think

I’ve put the tracking into Ebay but it’s not been delivered so now buyer has opened up item not received case and almost at the date when I can claim for loss < sigh>

However it gets worse... the address provided by PayPal and where I sent it has the wrong county on it !!!

So for example
22 happy street, northern town, DEVON ? northern town postcode

I’m going to be stuffed with claiming for it aren’t ?

I’m no expert, but I believe that you can only post to the address in the PayPal account. The address was entered by the PayPal account holder and is not your or PayPal ‘s responsibilitty. It’s not your fault it was wrong. You have an email trail where the buyer admits that the address is wrong and tries to get you to send it elsewhere. I’d get on eBay chat and see what they say.

Kattymanners · 24/01/2018 12:48

I love your optimism !

Ebay chat were pretty dire... basically wait and see what happens the next few days Hmm

And because ( assuming the parcel isn’t delivered ) there won’t be an update to the tracking as it stands today, ebay won’t have a conclusive proof of delivery and they suggested I make a claim directly with r m

Where I will have to admit putting Devon on the label < sighs again >

If you pay by PayPal the item you are buying must only be posted to that address. I think the buyer is going to struggle to claim when you posted to the PayPal address

bonzo77 · 24/01/2018 13:50

Did you put a return address on it? It may come back to you. Not much help, but if they have the wrong address, what do they expect.

Oh, and if post code and street address is correct, putting the wrong county should make no difference.

Kattymanners · 24/01/2018 14:08

Postcode and address match so that’s something...

Return address is there - but I don’t want it back - I just don’t want neg feedback or fees taken for something entirely out of my control.

I will keep you all updated next week. Thanks !

I wouldn’t worry too much OP.

Royal Mail will go by the street number / name and post code. As long as they match up, you will be fine.

If she opens a not received case then just add the tracking to the sales record (in fact do that now!) and as long as ebay can see it’s been delivered to the address (post code) provided, you will won the case.

If the seller leaves negative FB then call ebay and explain what’s happened, they should remove it.

This is one example of where seller protection actually kicks in!

19lottie82 · 24/01/2018 15:17

PS sorry ignore my last post, I didn’t read the OP properly.......yes to win the not received case, you need proof that the item hasn’t been delivered. What does the tracking actually say? Parcel refused? At depot? Returned to sender?

Kattymanners · 31/01/2018 20:27

And now it all changes...

This morning Royal Mail have sent me a cheque and an apology, it’s 50p short of what I received but Confused

And now the buyer has closed the case in my favour saying he’s received the item Hmm with the comment in the case he wants nothing more to do with this seller (me) so my paypal funds are no longer on hold...

Eek...what do I do now ?
