dumb question from ebay novice

I've never bought anything from ebay before, but I was thinking of getting a trail-a-bike for dd - in the hope she might be able to ride with dh in summer. There's a few listed, some with lots of bids. When you click on the bidding history though it looks like the same person has bid lots of times! Is this what normally happens? sorry for dumb question!

Say I bid £3 then when the bid has gone through I realise someone else has already bid higher than that so I bid £4.50.

Happens a few times til I either quit bidding or become the hightest bidder

would it not show the other bids as well though? This shows 9 bids, all apart from 1 seem to be the same user.

when you bid you type in the maximum you are willing to pay. So if the staring price was £1:

Bidder A bids £1
Bidder B bids £10, but as bidding only goes up by 50p each time, ebay recognises their bid as £1.50
A goes 'Damn' and bids £2
Ebay knows B can go up to £10 so automatically ups their bid to £2.50
but this doesn't show as a new bid from B
A goes 'Damn' and bids £3

and so it goes on

The list of bids will show many bids from bidder A but only one from B.
