Paypal and collection only item

Hi, I know this has probably been posted here a million times- but i just wanted to know the procedure to refuse a paypal payment for a collection only item.

I am selling my sons keyboard which is quite expensive- in the event someone does pay via paypal, what can i do to stop the process? Do i have to go into my paypal account and refund them the money?

This is the first time i have ever sold anything on ebay- I did say paypal or cash on collection in the original advert? Just updated it to Prefer cash on collection. D'oh Have only just read about potential paypal buyer scams.

In the description you put cash on collection only, any paypal payment will be refunded.
It's silly because cash on collection stuff eBay still make Paypal an option. I wish they could change that.
If the listing hasn't ended and has more than 12 hours you can revise it and change the description to cash on collection only.
Of course this is up to the buyer to obey that, as they are still able to pay via PayPal. All buyers I've had i haven't had a problem with them honouring the cash on collection. But if they do pay via PayPal send them a polite message saying cash on collection only and that you need to refund them.
They can still have it if they want to collect it. If they don't want to collect then you will need to cancel the sale. But risk negative feedback if buyer isn't understanding of the reason.
The risk is too high for cash on collection via PayPal.
But you will probably find you wont have a problem with the buyer agreeing to paying cash in the first place.

And yes, you go into your paypal, find the transaction and refund them.

If I have refunded them by paypal and then if i do have to cancel the order in the event of them not wanting to collect it...will they be refunded twice? It says that if you cancel the order in ebay, they automatically refund the buyer if paid through paypal....

Thank you. The item sold and the buyer will only pay by paypal. Hasn't paid yet. Do I ask him to cancel the order or do i cancel the order? If I cancel the order, can i still offer a second chance offer to the previous highest bidder?

Contact ebay as he has broken the T's & C's you specified. When he bid he consented to those T's & C's so he is in breach of contract.

I had this exact experience & ebay were great on the phone.

Thanks for the advice- the only problem is in the original description i put i will accept paypal can cash on collection (before i knew about the whole scam thing) Later i updated the advert via the additional sellers note to prefer cash on collection only- so he may not be in breech of the T & C's :(

I feel like i've been schooled in the art of ebay selling over the last 24 hours!

They won't be refunded twice. eBay & paypal are linked. If you refund anyone via PayPal, providing you go to the transaction and then select 'refund this payment' eBay will know about it.
As for the whole cancelling process. Why won't they agree to cash on collection?
And, you need to cancel the sale. You will find the option to cancel on the drop down menu next to the listing. In doing this the said buyer can't leave bad feedback, if they wanted to give you it because they haven't paid yet. But once they pay they can, so cancel it sharpish.
You should be able to second chance offer it yes.

I read online that some people buy receipt books and get the person to sign it etc

Don't worry about your description in your T&C's. You made a mistake. You need to get in before they do and cancel the sake before they pay.
Schooling lol - welcome to the weird, wonderful, & complicated world of eBay. They make it so difficult.

Imalannister- have just cancelled the order and it says they have upto 10 days to confirm. What happens if they don't confirm? And yes exactly why wouldnt they pay by cash?

Even better today- having made a second revision on the advert last night...the listing disappeared on ebay. Apparently on multiple revisions on the advert, it has to go through a referencing system to be approved and can take up to 24 hours to reappear. Be warned doing this close to an end of an auction. Was on the phone to ebay today for 30 mins trying to get it sorted! luckily it reappeared after 4 hours- but that could have effectively been potential lost bid sales!

If they don't confirm after the 10 days is up then it will automatically cancel. The only reason I can think of with them not confirming it is because they are being an arse about it all. And exactly, you've got to ask yourself why didn't they agree to cash on collection. Did they pay? Also what did you select the reason for cancelling as?
I didn't know that about revising an item multiple times. Good to know.

Have also been reading that if you cancel an order and the buyer doesnt agree to the request, then you have to pay ebay final value fees? What the ?!*!

No they didnt pay. I only had 3 options for request of cancellation- and had to put buyer requested cancellation- as the only other options were items was damaged or broke, or there was a mistake in the listing. Sweet lord, im going be pissed if i get charged!

That must be only if they pay surely. Because how can they expect you to pay final value fees on something you wasn't able to sell/post due to non payment?

Hi, I only just heard about this, but eBay does not allow you to deselect PayPal payment when listing. I also cannot change the description any more.

I recently sold an item around £25 offering both PP and cash on collection, fortunately an honest person picked it up and left glowing feedback as soon as he got home, so phew.
Another item, worth £50 I have ended early as the highest (and only) bidder requested me to do so; I could not send contact details without ending the listing first. Initially I requested cash through the messaging system but they have now paid by PP and I don't wish to drag the process out further by refunding plus they will collect tomorrow. They may have used PP instead for convenience or to secure the item as they were keen.

I've just read PP's T&Cs and from how I understand, buyers are no longer protected by the 'Buyer Protection Policy' any more for collection items? Is this true? All the older threads discourage PP for Collection items, but have they closed the 'loophole' now? Here's an extract from the T&Cs"
"Eligibility
In order to qualify for PayPal Buyer Protection in addition to the conditions of Section 5 the following requirements must be met:
3.1 Purchase paid with PayPal Services
The Buyer has purchased an item and paid for it using the PayPal Services.
3.2 Eligible transactions
Purchases of most goods and services are eligible (including travel tickets, intangible items such as rights of access to digital content and other licenses), except for the following transactions:
...Purchases of items which you collect in person or arrange to be collected on your behalf (including at a retail point of sale) and which you claim to be INR,"

I've decided not to sell v.expensive items on ebay anymore- it is just not worth the stress. I managed to sell my sons keyboard on gumtree almost as soon as i put it on- none of the paypal shannanigans! Lesson learned.
