How long do you give a buyer to contact you?

I have put a load of stuff on the NZ equivalent of Ebay - called Trademe. I think it runs along similar lines to Ebay.

Anyway, usually, as soon as an item sells within 24 hours I have made contact with the buyer or seller (50/50 who contacts first in the past) and by day 4 the whole think is usually sorted.
Anyway, I sold a stair gate on Thursday for $70 (they go like hotcakes - put it on for $15 and it just went crazy).
Now, Sunday night I still haven't heard from the guy. I emailed him on Friday. I know he is pretty local and I offered to drop it round or somewhere near him. No reply.

How long do you normally give a buyer to reply to your emails?

3 days

I would give him at least a couple of working days (rather than counting weekend days), he may only be able to pick up emails from work for example, or he might have left early on Friday for a long weekend away. If you haven't heard anything by the end of Tuesday you could email him saying you will relist the item unless you hear back from him by a certain date.

$70 sounds like a lot for a second-hand stairgate, perhaps he's changed his mind.

I'd allow for him being away for the weekend or accessing the Internet at work and give him till say Tuesday.

That's on the generous side though and I'd definitely be pissed off if I hadn't heard by then.

Tuesday it is then. Thanks all ...
Bran ... $70 does sound phenomenal doesn't it? But they are going for that price on Trademe ... I only paid $40 for it (second hand from a friend) and thought I may get $20.
When it got to $50 I was tempted to go on and tell them to stop being silly

The same has happened with an old oven ... I put it on for $50 thinking I may be lucky if I got $75 - I just want rid of it. Made it clear I have no idea if it works, made it clear that whoever bought it would have to arrange to get it moved from my house and everything.
Sold today for $430
Crazy.
