Brabantia bin bought on ebay

Hi, I am new to ebay and mumsnet, but have bought a Brabantia bin and have just received it. There is no plastic base inside. (I assume a Brabantia bin has one). There is no mention of a missing base, in fact the item is described as brand new. Does anyone know if a Brabantia bin should have a plastic insert and what do I do now.

Which model is it?

Twinkie1 · 23/03/2007 14:45

Yep contact the seller - ours has a base in it and there should be one in yours!!

Search for a new one say on Argos and see what it says, then once you have proof there should be an inner bin, email the seller.

Nip · 23/03/2007 14:46

yeah it should - they all come with one in. Mine has a metal one.

ArcticRoll · 23/03/2007 14:48

Do you mean it has no black base?

mumtoaprincess · 23/03/2007 14:49

If I have to return the item, should I ask for a refund of postage costs as I note it cost her £7.70 to send to me.

No, it doesn't have one. I have the 30 litre one and there is no base/ bottom to the brushed silver outer (or vanilla outer as we have . The bucket just slots in sitting on the rim not the base. HTH.

mumtoaprincess · 23/03/2007 14:50

Yes, it does not have a black base

You do have a bucket thing with a handle don't you?

mumtoaprincess · 23/03/2007 14:52

Skyler, there isn't a bucket. All there is is the outer silver bin with a massive hole in the bottom. Surely your bin liner has to rest on something at the bottom besides your floor.

I have the 30 litre one and it has a plastic insert with a metal handle to lift it out with. I don't see how it could work without the insert

ArcticRoll · 23/03/2007 14:55

Yep you should have bucket with handle.

Skyler · 23/03/2007 14:55

Oh dear. You should have a black plastic bucket type thing with a handle that the bin liner goes in and fits round the top of. This fits in the outer sheath (that you seem to have) and then the lid on top. If they are not able to send you the bucket bit free of charge I would ask for a full refund incl postage if it has been described as brand new.

mumtoaprincess · 23/03/2007 14:59

I have just emailed her

If she offers me a full refund, do I return the item first or get the refund first.

you need to return the item (unless she actually offers a refund without wanting it back - It can happen especially if it's no good to her)
When returning send by trackable means so that you have proof should paypal get involved in the refund process.

Contact ina pleasant way to start with, see what she offers, stick to your guns and hopefully all will work out without having to file disputes etc

sixlostmonkeys · 23/03/2007 15:13

sorry - taht should have been return the item first receive refund after that

SongbirdIsEasteryEnough · 23/03/2007 15:15

Really, you want the cost of the bin, the postage to you and the postage back refunded (iyswim). You shouldn?t have to pay to send it back as it?s their fault. I must say, I?ve gone off ebay a bit ? some people really take the piss!
