Item is collection only but eBay requires PayPal as payment method?

I'm listing a bike for sale on eBay, BiN listing with Best Offer.

I've tried to list as cash on collection but eBay is prompting me to add PayPal as a payment method.

I know that PayPal isn't suitable for items collected in person - can't work out what I need to do here as I've been able to list this way before. Is it because it's BiN rather than auction item?

AFAIK you just write cash on collection please in the description. Some people may insist on paying by PayPal for protection.

As you go through you get the option to add cash then write cash only as well. It's eBay rules you have to offer PayPal but you can insist on cash and in fact you must. Never take PayPal for a collection item as you have no proof of delivery.

Also, it's a good idea that if the buyer pays with PayPal and comes to collect, then you could protect yourself by having some form of signed note to prove that they have picked up.

A seller always has to prove delivery. I have been caught out this way, the buyer got the goods AND the money as I couldn't prove I had given them the goods.
It's always better (for the buyer) to have cash on collection. That way the buyer can't say they haven't received the goods and the seller can't prove they've been paid.

Most buyers I have dealt with are happy to pay cash on collection.

Good luck! Smile

WorkingItOut thanks - yes, I know definitely not to accept PayPal, last time I sold a bike I forgot to adjust and they paid immediately by PayPal but were great about me refunding then paying cash on collection.

So - I add both cash and PayPal as payment options but just make it clear that only cash is actually accepted?

Thanks both

Just hijacking to say I have sold something for collection and the buyer has paid Paypal - if I refund him before he collects, on a BiN, will the item be marked as unsold? Confused

tiokiko · 12/06/2017 13:45

No it will still be shown as sold but just that you're waiting for payment. You then manually mark as payment received once you have the cash.

Thanks, I've done that!

Getting someone to sign something when they collect doesn't protect you whatsoever.

If someone pays PayPal refund it and remind them it's cash upon collection only.
