Can I return item if it doesn't arrive before event?

Bought an item of clothing off ebay last Friday for a special event. The transaction didn't take place until after 5pm so I didn't expect the seller to send it until after the bank holiday.

The event is this weekend, so I need the item here no later than Saturday morning (the seller is aware of this). Yesterday I messaged the seller to ask if they'd dispatched it and they said they hadn't yet but would do so ASAP. Messaged again today and it still hasn't been posted - if it doesn't get here in time then am I entitled to return it to the seller for a refund? Hoping it will make it, but starting to panic a bit now :( TIA

What's her handling time? Can you open a case? She should definitely have posted it by now, it's unreasonable not to have. Open a case if and when you can and demand a refund.

And then go buy something else! 😁

3 working days - so excluding bank holiday Monday, Today would have been the last day

Check your sales record, there should be a delivery estimate. If it's passed then open a not received case with eBay and select the option that you want a refund.

If it does arrive then unfortunately you don't have the right to return it, unless it's a business seller and you can return it but you are responsible for the return postage unless the seller agrees to pay given the circumstances.

Sorry ,I think you are being unreasonable. If you needed an item for Saturday then you should have either gone to a shop or used a shop with an overnight delivery service. If I was the seller I would be peeved that you had asked me about postage twice in two days, I certainly would not offer you a refund and my feedback to you would be polite but explicit.

viques did you not read the full post? The OP purchased the item A WEEK AGO!
It was only yesterday she first messaged the buyer to chase its progress.

I'm presuming when she bought the item there was a delivery estimate which tied in with when she needed the item for, and this has now passed.

Oh and if you left "explicit" (negative comments) feedback then it would be removed by eBay, as sellers can only leave positive FB for buyers and it's against eBay rules to try and manipulate this into a negative.

If you're a seller I sincerely hope I never buy anything from you!

PS OP I said you can't return the item if it arrives too late, but what you can do is not accept the parcel, then escalate the not received case (or open one if you haven't already). Even if there is tracking which shows it's at the sorting office you'll still win, the parcel needs to be delivered for the case to go in the sellers favour

The seller should have posted it Tuesday.

ImaLannister · 03/06/2017 00:33

You bought ur item on the Friday. 3 working days (at the most that's the max wait - as sellers normally post before) But lets go with the 3 days. That's 3 working days. So, she should have posted it on Thursday or Friday latest. No where is open on bank hol Monday to post. So, the 3 working days start from Tuesday. So effectively she isn't late posting it, and this is your error of judgement. You should have known there was a risk it wouldn't have arrived by Friday. I would of.

By the Saturday rather.
What was the post mentioned? 1st/2nd class etc?

19lottie82 · 03/06/2017 10:26

Ima true, but the listing would have had an estimated delivery date shown before the OP purchased (maybe tack on another day to cover the bank holiday and conveniently eBay don't seem to recognise these!).

I'm assuming this delivery date would have allowed enough time to get the item for when she needed it?

Thanks all - Luckily it got here in the nick of time (Saturday morning) after a few choice words to the seller
