O.K if something is listed on Ebay as private would you think it was seedy or stolen

I have put my things on ebay as private ,because someone I know has found out my ebay name and I don't want them knowing what I make.
Now these are childrens items and bits from around the house. My Ebay sales are really slow and I am not making much at the moment. DH thinks private is putting people off for the reasons in the title. What do you think? would you be put off?

i wouldn't look at a private bid purely because of the things i look for. there are lots more of the same thing to look at that aren't private and i like to read feedback, see items sold/bought etc

Bananaknickers · 17/03/2007 21:16

Are the private things not listed amongst the other bits then?

I thought it was just that others other than me can't see who's bidding and what the final price paid for is

Yes, I would be suspicious TBH

i dont think it has anything to do with you selling your item pivately, i was talking to my dh yesterday about ebay as i think these last few months ebay has gone down hill as things are going really cheap, (as though not many people are using ebay that much) or something cause months ago everything was going for a fair price but now its like everybody wants things for nothing.

Bananaknickers · 17/03/2007 21:35

right I will start to list them as normal again.RLR I was thinking it may be this too. I was making aroung £20 a week selling things from around the house and clothes. Lat week I made £6 and my e bay fees for last few times amounted to £10

Private does put me off tbh.
I agree, things are slow at the moment.

What about changing your name on ebay and then no-one can spy on you?

Bananaknickers · 18/03/2007 13:02

Trouble is if someone types in your name your new one comes up. I don't want to open another account because I have 100% feedback. I am put off buying things sometimes as I don't want people knowing what I am buying. I have changed them all to non private now.
