Been offered a buy it now price for immediate collection - can I close the listing?

The auction ends tomorrow evening, but someone wants to collect today, which would be great. Can I amend the listing and, if so, what to? There are no bids so far.

I think you would have to end the auction listing and then relist as fixed price at the amount offered.

I did this just today and got told off by eBay

They don't like it because they won't get any money out of it. It's the first time I've done it though so I assume if I do it again there will be dire consequences.

Thanks - I didn't know if I could accept an offer and then somehow put that onto ebay and close the auction. I've changed the listing to add a Buy it Now price.

However, it seems the buyer is trying to pull a fast one as I'm now being hounded by them to give address and contact details and take it off ebay - why would they care if I have to pay a couple of pounds to ebay? I reckon they're planning to turn up, offer less than the agreed amount and hope we'll take it because we've got someone standing there offering to take the stuff off our hands.

That sounds a little paranoid, tbh.
May I ask what item is and what price you're willing to accept?

Maybe they are just desperate to buy it and are scared you will sell to someone else so they want to do the deal asap.

Buyer might have problems using credit card or paypal, too.

I would just end the listing

Only take cash for collection items. PayPal can be reversed and you have no proof of postage.

Thanks. I said I was leaving it on ebay and they're no longer interested - but why would a buyer care whether the seller was having to pay selling fees?! It was a greenhouse.

They were probably going to pinch it. 🕵🏽‍♀️ You would have no evidence that you had sold it to them.
