Issue with collection item

I had an item that is too heavy to post and so it was listed as collection only. The item sold on the 18th and I have still not heard from the buyer.

They paid for the item via PayPal - this was my own fault, they hadn't paid for the item and I spoke to Ebay, they opened a case, still nothing from the buyer last night the buyer paid for the item - fine I have confirmed what I need to do with Ebay when the buyer collects.

I sent the buyer a message as soon as they paid and they still haven't contacted me to arrange collection.

How long is reasonable for me to wait for them to arrange collection?

Sorry should have said they had not arranged collection or even contacted me not they hadn't paid for the item.

Firstly you need to refund PayPal payment and only take cash on collection.

If they don't get in touch then I'd cancel the sale.

Penguins advice is correct. Refund the PayPal payment and message them stating you cannot accept PayPal for collection items as it voids your seller protection. They need to pay cash and when can they collect?

If still no reply then personally I would request their phone number from eBay and call them (but you don't have to, it's up to you).

If you don't have any luck, cancel the transaction (go as if you were opening a non payment case and you should find an option for "I want to cancel this transaction", click this then select there is an issue with the buyers address (or similar).
That way it will be cancelled instantly, you don't need to wait up to a week for them to accept, and you can re list.

Personally I don't use eBay for collection only items as scenarios like this are all too common. I always use gumtree, and you don't need to pay any fees either.

I can't cancel the transaction because Ebay opened an unpaid case. I have sent them three messages in total, one when they first won the item, one a week later and the final one last night when they paid for the item stating I was going to refund and when would they like to collect. Ebay said as long as I had a message sent to me through their Ebay to mine when they collected I would be protected which seemed like a complete ball ache! I have tried twice to refund the item through PayPal but for some reason it won't go through - any ideas? My PayPal account has about £15 more in it than the cost of the item.
I've had a bloody nightmare just recently selling stuff on both Ebay and Gumtree - I had some very dodgy messages sent for an item on Gumtree and they have passed them all to their safety team.

Looks like I'm destined to keep all of our old stuff!

NOT true in the slightest. Please don't go With this! EBay have a reputation for offering crap advice at times.

Go to PayPal find the payment and there should be an option to refund next to it.

Then message seller as advised and if no response then go as if you were opening an unpaid item (you should still be able to do this as long as you refund them first) and you should see the cancel transaction option.

I finally managed to refund him yesterday, up until then Paypal kept saying error unable to process - on both the app and mobile site (we don't have a PC or laptop).

Anyway all sorted now, thanks again.
