What does it mean when an item is pending payment through paypal?

I won and paid for two items on 13th and 14 th March. It says the payment was sent but on My Ebay the payment pending symbol is showing by both items.

What does that mean?

is your paypal funded or is it coming from your bank account?mine does this if my paypal is empty or not enough.

MegaLegs · 16/03/2007 16:05

It comes from my bank account so should be ok.

It can also mean that the seller has not set up their Paypal correctly so is not able to collect the money until they sort it out.

MegaLegs · 16/03/2007 16:08

Just checked my account - it says it is uncleared and will clear on 23rd March. I thought it was just a direct payment.

I think I understand it now - it takes 7-10 for the money to clear from my bank account into Paypal account as there is nothing in the Paypal account.

Im having this problem at the moment!
I have paid for 3 items on seperate days but they will not receive the money till the 27th March!
I have paid for things before when I have had NO money in my paypal account, but never had to wait this long before.
The money has already been debited from my bank account though.
Is paypal being very slow at the moment or has it always been like this?

RedTartanLass · 19/03/2007 10:23

I had a similar problem. Is it like this

here

MegaLegs · 19/03/2007 10:26

That's exactly what happened here. Havn't used Paypal for awhile, comes straight from my bank account which is well in credit and yes 7-10 days to clear. I contacted both sellers and they said they received a message saying payment pending and it would clear by 23rd March. When did it all change?

No idea MegaLegs, one day I had instant payment this next it was an e-cheque. Mega PITA!!

Haven't got off my lazy ass and got it sorted yet, so will be watching this thread with interest.

Thank God it isnt just me then!!!
I thought it was because I hadnt changed my details properly!
Ebay sent me a message in Jan saying that my debit card was due to expire, took me ages to find out how to do it. I eventually did it & then all this happens!
One seller has already sent my goods out to me, but has not received payment yet. I have already paid of course, but they had rejected payment & said it was trouble on their end. Now I dont know what to do as the payment has not gone back into my paypal account as of yet!
Bizzare!
Will keep watching this thread too.
Good Luck ladyies

ladies!!! whoops

MegaLegs · 19/03/2007 10:50

or maybe ladeez.

I had same prob when my debit card expired in Dec. Got a message but couldn't work out how to enter new deatails for ages. Think I will stop using Paypal and just send cheques or PO, it's too scarey. I hate owing money and have always had good feedback for paying quickly.

This is such a pain as I am a frequent Ebay user. DH sends a payment and it is instant and he has no money in his PayPal but mine takes over a week. Have updated my card details but it still doesn't work-aaaarrrggghhh!!!!

When some clever person solves this mystery please, please post on here

MusicLover · 19/03/2007 10:58

Yes me too Megalegs! About the feedback I mean. Got 100% & have always paid quickly too.
Can't understand it at all!
I have paid with cheque before & also paid through internet banking when they give their details. But I have always found Paypal to be quick & efficient (sp)

Im sure they are going to loose custom this way, do you not agree?

MegaLegs · 19/03/2007 11:05

Agree MusicLover - I like being able to get stuff quickly. I thought the whole point of Paypal was that you could pay for an item instantly without having to wait for a cheque to clear. When I firts used ebay I would receive stuff within 2 days from some sellers. It's frustrating.

I get quite a few payment pendings and to be honest, and hopefully to put your mind at rest, it doesn't bother me that I have to wait for the payment to clear - I still consider that the buyer paid promptly.
I always get a date when the payment will clear and then i get an email on the day it clears.

i don't think I'm getting more of these than I've always had, but that is not to say that there hasn't been any changes in the way paypal works.

Sometimes I get a message from the buyer informing me of the date it will clear - which is nice (although not essential) and it makes for good buyer/seller communications.

the downside is indeed for the buyer - who has to wait over a week before the item is sent.

piximon · 21/03/2007 23:45

It's really odd because I've ordered from a few different sellers in the past few days and paid instantly via paypal no probs, but the payment I made this afternoon is showing as pending. So I wonder if it's to do with the seller rather than the buyer?

brimfull · 21/03/2007 23:52

I have had a few sellers paying by e-cheque recently and they are as confused as me because they assumed their payment would be instant as it usually is.

brimfull · 21/03/2007 23:52

buyers even!
