How do I get a blank background for my photos?

I keep seeing photos on ebay where the background is completely white - as if it has been removed entirely rather than having a white sheet or card behind the item.

Does anyone know how I can get the same effect?

Photoshop. One of the tools allows you to draw round your object and discrd the rest.

It's easier to use a sheet
