If someone described a Knight's costume as being in OK condition and it arrived with a hole

in the mesh of the sleeve (which is lined) .. but the hole in the mesh is about the size of 2 x 50p pieces

would you email them about it?

and what would you expect them to do about it?

Im my experience of ebay, they may say "Oh it was fine when we sent it" or offer to refund the money if you send it back, so you'll have to pay for the postage to send it back.

Ebay is crap IMO. Can you fix the mesh reasonably?

In my opinion any damage or fault with an item should be stated. If we buy a garment in a shop that is reduced due to a fault they put something like a red arrow on the fault or write the reason on the tag. Simply saying 'OK' is not good enough. I would interpret that as - been worn and laundered a few times. If no fault or damage was stated I would assume there is none.
I do think think you should email about this.
If you would prefer to keep the item but receive some discount I'd send a friendly email stating your disappointment and wish for a part refund. If you prefer to return it and receive a full refund you are within your rights under 'item not as described'.
