PayPal.... Why have all my payments suddenly become e-cheques & not instant transfers?

Hi, hope someone can help. Been using PayPal & eBay for a few years. For some reason, my last 3 purchases where I've paid by PayPal have gone through as eCheques & taken days to clear. Why has it suddenly defaulted to this & how do I change it back to transfer instantly from my bank account? I'm a verified member & I've tried using the help pages on PayPal - they just say I should be able to select a radio button to choose instant transfer or eCheque, but the only button I get now is the eCheque one. It's a real pain!

is it because your paypal account is unfunded so its going from bank account?thats what mine does if account is empty or not enough for total.

but it never used to do this.... I've never kept any funds in my PayPal account... is this a new thing then ?

I had this recently. As far as I remember it was because my back up source of funding had expired (credit card). IT means that you don't have back up form of payment (I think)

yep, i had this and called paypal with anger. they told me although im paying it from my bank account, my card registered with them was expired. i think i was given a new card last year and forgot to change it.
as soon as changed my card details i was back to instant payment. they dont explain well do they?

ah, makes sense now... had a reminder from eBay that my card expired end of Feb. Knew I could rely on Mumsnet for the answer! Thanks everyone
