sounds a bit dodgy

totaleclipse · 23/02/2007 10:29

I assume you are the seller, if he/she has paid, then send the books to where they say, how can it be a scam if you have been paid or am I missing something really obvious

cremolafoam · 23/02/2007 10:30

sounds dodgy
french address usually

surmane, forename
12 rue ellodave
town
75000( 5 digit code)
france

greenday · 23/02/2007 10:38

Could it be someone from Taiwan buying the books as a present for someone in France? Perhaps you could check the French website equivalent of the Royal Mail website to verify the address?
But if you have been paid, then it should be no problem.

elloDave · 23/02/2007 10:38

yeah - address is really different to that!

Just worried that they can somehow get access to my paypal if they pay!

Am taking advice from eBay

unless the books are super-valuable I would doubt they are trying to scam you.

aDad · 23/02/2007 10:40

you are right to be careful but I dont see how they could access your PayPal account like that.

ManchesterMum · 23/02/2007 10:45

The format of the address looks fine when compared with those my sister has had when she's been working there in recent years.

As long as you've been paid then just do as asked. Though if you want to cover yourself then take a photo of the wrapped parcel, clearly showing the address label and also ask for proof of posting at the Post Office too (just a postcard style thing which they sign and stamp, doesn't cost extra like registered mail). Would give you something to support your case in the unlikely event that eBay were asked to mediate any dispute.

Hi we had the same type of thing recently overa hand held computer. they sent a fake 'you have recived payment' thing saying that once we gave a postage tracking number the money would clear into our account! it can from and 'paypal' email addy, we reported it as fraudulant and ebay and paypal both dealt with it.

this was a buyer from one country requesting it to be sent to another, all a bit suspicious if you ask me!

joash · 23/02/2007 11:09

I would avoid this - I had a similar thing recently over a mobile phone. However I dont trust any bugger and my suspicions were confirmed by ebay. ALso ignore anything that says you've been paid - they can sand fake emails telling you that you've been paid.

3andnomore · 12/03/2007 12:38

but surely, as soon as you log into Paypal properly, i.e. not a link over an E-mail, you would be able to view if a payment has been received...

GRUMPYGIRL · 12/03/2007 12:41

I dont trust any emails I receive from Ebay or paypal. Go into the paypal website and check, dont use a link on the e-mail as this could be bogus too.

CarGirl · 12/03/2007 12:44

If you do not send to the verified paypal address of the buyer then you are not covered - they can claim back the money they have paid via paypal
