Bastard Hermes saying my parcel has been delivered but it's not here

Forgive the sweaty thread, I'm really quite cross. I bought myself a lovely bag last week to take away for our anniversary trip later this month and it was meant to be delivered tomorrow. I checked the tracking number on eBay today to check it was on schedule, and it says it was delivered yesterday. We were out all day yesterday and there's no parcel anywhere, I've checked with neighbours and behind the fence. I'm more cross that the listing stated postage with Royal Mail as my postman never leaves parcels out or throws them, and Hermes are known for doing both things here. I've asked the seller to chase it up with Hermes but I have a real sick feeling in my stomach that not only have I no bag, I'll also be out of pocket too since the tracking says it's been delivered. Is it hopeless?

Ask hermes to tell you who signed for it

I can't make head nor tail of their website, it's saying it's not a my Hermes tracking number, it's a Hermes world number but there's no option to contact anyone about it. I thought about asking who signed for it. I know when I post Royal Mail tracked it gets a signature at the other end, surely without that it means nothing?

Hermes don't get a signature, unless the sender requests (and pays more for) it.

I hate to say it OP but your only chances here are

1. getting the seller to chase it up - hermes won't deal with you, as their contract is with the seller, who purchased the postage, not you. If the seller pushes them they will prob pay out compensation to cover the parcel, but that's only £20, unless the seller paid more for extra insurance.
   If you ask ebay they will send you the sellers phone number. it may be worth giving them a call to persuade them to do so.

2. plead your case with ebay. usually the will close the case in the sellers favour, and leave you out of pocket, but occasionally, they will provide a non fault refund, if a parcel shows as "delivered" and you stand your ground that it wasn't. I'd also push the point that you paid for royal mail delivery, say you wouldn't have agreed for it to be sent by myhermes as they are so unreliable and crap.

or file a charge back with your bank/credit card

Check your bins.

if the OP paid by PayPal then a credit card company won't get involved.
