Hi

On going saga with a sofa I am selling. First buyer dropped out - just no communication/wont answer his phone or reply to messages.

Re-listed it and got an email from someone asking if they could view it this afternoon because they're in the area. I phoned the number the left and a guy answered the phone but he was quite vague.

I don't really like people coming to view things when I'm here alone as I've got an 11 month old who is a handful.

Is it the done thing to accept them to come round? Obviously I know they might not bid on it if I turn them down?

Thanks
Lucy

Sounds like a good idea to take a look but I'd make sure you're not alone in the house.

For something like a sofa which will need to be collected, and may end up quite expensive, I can understand someone wanting to see it. However if you feel uncomfortable (and I can understand why) the DON'T DO IT!

Can you arrange for a friend to be around, or partner/ family member?

mrsratty · 26/01/2007 13:31

For something big like a sofa it is fair enough as they will want to see what condition it's in. We did this when we bought a tv on ebay.

Spidermama · 26/01/2007 13:33

Yes I agree it's fair enough to want to see it but make it at a time which suits YOU not a time which suits HIM. ie make sure someone else is with you.

Hi thanks for quick responses

The girl has called me back - they are down visiting relatives in the next town, she's with her DH and son.

Na, I don't feel comfortable tbh so think I'll leave it. Thanks for your help

I know it is a bit late now but I would not buy anything like that without having a look first TBH. I think you did the right thing if you did not feel comfortable but I do think you should expect to have people asking to come and view it before they buy it.

I have several people coming tomorrow to view my large item. but i have organised it so that DH is home.

Spidermama · 27/01/2007 20:32

Oooer cece. I wouldn't have strangers trooping by to visit my large item.

divamumdiva · 27/01/2007 20:38

i think its a bit weird. because they are coming in your house. i never let ppl i dont know in, unles they are doing job for me like plumbing, carpet fitters and etc.. but never on my own.
we sold classic car on ebay, couple came and see and asked how much was reserve, said they will defo have it, and someone else bought it instead.

gingermonkey · 27/01/2007 20:48

I sold some alloy wheels on ebay and a guy came round to view them, gave me the cash and took them away. I was a bit worried about it so made dh come home from work. Could you get a neighbour or friend to pop round??? I think I would probably want to have a look at a sofa if I was buying it, but I am a lovely trustworthy person so you'd have no trouble with me

cece · 28/01/2007 09:51

well the poeple came anviewed my large item. They liked it a lot LOL

Hi

I agree - it's reasonable to want to see something like a sofa before purchasing but I'm fairly new to Ebay and in my head I had it that it's all internet based so wasn't really expecting viewers (although totally expected people to come and have a look when I advertised it in the local paper).

They came back another time and have bought it

Thanks for your help

Lucy
