People wanting Buy It Now

I don't sell things often on eBay as I don't have time. I have had to sell a bit of furniture recently due to a rental property we have just sold. I have noticed many people ask for Buy It Now prices and to end Auction early. For example, I had one item asking for £60 to start with. Person offered £40 to pick it up tomorrow, ended up paying over £100 at auction. Had another item on BIN for weeks, no bites, just changed it to auction this weekend and similar thing . It's happened about 5 times. Is this a thing? Am I missing something when people are asking this? You can't really add a BIN price after the auction has started without it being a dodgy pain in the bum.

Well, it's up to you, really. You need to decide if you think you can get more by letting the auction run its course. Also, just because you add a BIN, it doesn't oblige the person to actually buy it, and you end up paying more listing fees.

Sometimes people just want the item now, not at the end of the week, or whatever. I added a BIN on an item a few days ago, because someone wanted it urgently for a school play. The BIN price she offered was a sum I was happy with, so it was a win-win. But if I had 20 watchers and it was a hot item, I'd have said no.

Yeah I get that people want it now, but the fact that it's happened so often on such a limited number of items is weird. The one that offered less than the start price and then won the bidding was being an optimist and cheeky.

TBH I've usually found those wanting BIN's hope the seller doesn't know the value of the item. Every time I've been asked for a BIN, without fail, the auction has always finished way above their offered price.

I would agree with Percy, I've also seen "can you stop the auction, I'll buy it now" messages from people who hope to undercut the final auction price or to get items where there's great demand.

My understanding is that you can't end an auction once it's running and one person has bid for it. Watch out for the BIN requesters winning the auction and then being awkward about the item when they receive it.

I offered on something I really really wanted - above the starting price and similar to what similar items had gone for. (£250 - starting price was £200)

The buyer said they wanted to wait and see how the auction went - not an issue I happily bid my highest (the offer I had made) and got it for the starting price. Some you win some you lose!

Guess it might be related to the items you were selling why its happening more often.
