Is my DH an Ebay numpty?

DH was watching something on Ebay starting price ?14.99, another seller had the same item as BIN ?16.99, postage was similar but slightly cheaper with first seller. Feedback & sales comparable. DH ended up bidding ?31.00 on the first item to win. I am soooo mad, I know it's not much money but it's so daft. The same guy had several of the product so he could have waited a few days & bid on another on a quieter day, gone for the BIN or watched a couple of others at least before he decided. We've just bought a new house & so much stuff needs doing that all the odd 10/15 pounds everywhere soon amount to loads.
Is anyone elses DH/DP as crazy, I was out or it'd have been me doing the bidding & wouldn't have touched it once the bidding went beyond the other guys BIN price. DH is not an ebay novice either
Rant over, thanks for listening.

Yes your DH is an ebay numpty. Thats just throwing money away...

helenhismadwife · 20/01/2007 15:23

sorry have to agree

Jbck · 20/01/2007 17:20

Don't apologise anyone, he is a complete numpty I just wanted some independent sane people to agree with me. He's trying to appease me by saying I could spend the £60 saved by buying item on Ebay rather than instore on shoes. Just what about 'We're trying to save money' does he not get!

£15 is double the price and a lot of money to many (myself included). Me thinks competitive spirit won the argument here... Men.

helenhismadwife · 20/01/2007 22:43

most of us have done it bid more than we meant to because we got carried away I like it when it happens on my auctions

GhostOfMumsnet · 20/01/2007 22:56

ebay is all about the chase and the catch. buying from as a BIN isn't anywhere near as much fun as bidding. It sucks you in, deeper and deeper. I know I've been there. Oh I feel so dirty

lissielou · 20/01/2007 22:58

pmsl, i do it all the time.

tranners · 20/01/2007 23:01

yes he is, and so's my DP he's banned. His first and only purchase that he bid on was a pair of trainers he wanted. Fine, but he didn't realise a) it was an american seller so what he thought were UK size 9 were size 8, and b) the P&P was about £20 and then we had to pay bloody import duty - so all in all the £20 trainers cost about £70. I tried relisting them but nobody was interested

yes my dh is an ebay numpty as well. he goes along alright for a week or two, then as soon as we argue/he doesnt get enough attention (esp.in the bedroom dept) /i go out for the day: he's straight on ebay, bidding on 5 or 6 items at the same time THAT ARE ALL THE SAME! example, at the same time it will be 2 black jumpers, 3 long sleeved black tshirts, 1 black shirt. then he'll win an average of 2 or 3 of them, which will no longer fit in his wardrobe because of all the other identical ebay purchases. another example, once he was bidding on 3 identical wristwatches (and he already had 2). he won 2 of them so he had to pay up for them, guess what, they sit in the cupboard because the man's only got 2 wrists!!

then the postman will start bringing the parcels when he's at work (i'm sahm).so i say 'have you bought something off ebay' and he will look me in the eye and say no, lol!
err...who answers the door to postie and signs the recorded delivery thingy?
scary

hk78 your dh is a bigger Ebay numpty than mine & no mistake

yes he is a bit of a tit, Jbck, but if he's on ebay at least that means he's not looking at internet porn (well, not for that moment anyway!)
mid-life crisis or what?

just had to scroll down to find this thread to add an update

went out with my best friend for a (rare)day out on good friday while dh stayed home with the kids (that'll teach him to have a day off work)

so, reading my posts below, can you think what could he have been doing on friday?

postman brought him an ebay parcel today, paid for on friday, when he allegedly spent the day with the children.
(by the way, he did actually tell me that he had no problem getting to have a shower while looking after them and doesn't know why i have a problem with it: apparently it was easy, he had a shower while they were on the trampolinethat's supervising them then! )

it's an identical jacket to the other two he has already bought off ebay before. same brand, size, colour and style.

(that's not including his winter coat collection which now numbers about 4, all off ebay, all the same) we're not rich by the way

yes, that there is a true ebay numpty.
