Combining postage

I just won 2 box sets of books on Ebay with the same seller. £6 postage each. I asked if he could combine postage and he replied saying well he'd check, but to be honest I'd already got an absolute bargain.

Now I know I knew the postage beforehand and I didn't email to ask, but I just assumed he'd combine postage if I won both. £12 postage for 12 books seems a little extreme!

I'll pay it, but do most of you combine postage? I alwyas do even if I don't write it in the blurb.

Most sellers will but they are under no obligation to do so.

I combine postage if asked but I don't sell books! Go and Stack 12 books up and see how much they weigh!! Postage for excessively heavy items is steep and rightly so.
Plus, I always use Royal Mail because of the ease of living walking distance to a PO. If someone asks to combine postage and its £10 through RM but £6 through some other courier I'll still send through Royal Mail, I'm not fannying about driving into town or finding nearest drop off depots. Sorry but it's their problem and I'm not heaping work on to myself to benefit others when I've likely made pence out of a secondhand sale.

It depends on weight. As soon as you go over 2 kg with Royal Mail prices quadruple so I can understand them not being keen as they may still need to send as two parcels. Hermes slightly better but the price is still dependent on weight and books can be very heavy.

I don't combine postage now but start the item at a higher price and put postage as "free". TBH combining postage is a faff.

12 books will probably cost around £12 to send so I can't blame the seller here, sorry. They weigh a ton!

Well I worked it out with the courier he's using! One lot would have cost £4.95 to post and both lots together £6.95. So originally he was taking £1 more on postage, but now he'll have £5 more. I really don't care, but he's not replying now! He said he'd work it out and get back to me, but silence.

I didn't think it was the cheekiest thing to ask, as if there were 2 different buyers it would have cost him £10 anyway. I just wish he'd flipping well reply now.

Hope you get it resolved - it's annoying when buyers / sellers don't reply and you are in a limbo!

I might just pay the full amount. I was only asking and he seemed a bit pissed off about it. I suppose it's what I would do if I was the seller. I am quite happy to pay as I should have checked beforehand and I don't want to quibble over a few pounds.....plus dd1 really wants the books!

I think it seems quite a lot of postage and as a seller I would refund some if it was more than £1 over but maybe he will send separately due to size / weight. You could always mark down postage stars on fb if package appears to have been sent for well under £12

I sell books exclusively and it's all on weight. After 2kg with post office it's excruciatingly expensive. Some of my listings come with the caveat that by bidding they accept the bundle will come in 2 parcels. If they want them all in one it'll cost them close to £15.

I do always combine postage where the weight combined is under 2kg though!

If it were me I'd send them Collect Plus and combine. But I set my starting price at a fair place to begin with, and take into account all the fees.

But a pound a book delivered isn't really expensive.

I don't know what to do now. He's just not replying. Last heard from him on Monday saying he'd check the postage, then nothing. I sent a message yesterday morning asking him if he'd manage to check postage, no reply.

Do I just pay the full postage?

He can always give you a refund later if he's a friendly sort
