Buyer wants refund for dress not as described

Hi. I sold on a dress at the weekend for just over 80 quid, so quite high value. The winning bidder had been in communication a lot during the auction asking for extra pics and measurements, all provided. Buyer messaged me last night wanting a refund as I had measured the centre back at 40 inches and they measure it as 98cm, so they're saying that it's a lovely dress but too short and not as described.

I've never been in this situation before (700+ 100% pos feedback) and I'd be grateful for any advice on how to deal with this - I stand by my measurement but of course I don't have the dress any more to double check. I would really rather not take it back if possible. What would you suggest?

Thank you.

It doesn't happen often but I have definitely had people buy and use then return. Pretty low in my opinion and of course they are put on blocked list - but they can easily do this over and over with a variety of sellers.

I swear eBay is worse for this then it's ever been. I had to refund someone for item not fitting the other day. Was easier than the hassle of not doing.
I then sold it on for more though so worked out ok.

Hi everyone, thanks so much for all the advice and info. Really helpful. To update, the dress arrived back today, condition is fine and it was even returned in the tissue paper I'd wrapped it in. Refund has been sent and item is relisted. Would be great if it gets more bids this time but tbh I just want to make back what I paid for it and be done with it! Thanks again Flowers
