Combined postage

I sell and buy. When I sell two items with the same postage, I just charge one set of p&p.

Also, if I sell something with £2.85 small parcel postage and manage to send it as a large letter instead then I refund the difference and let the buyer know. I thought this was basic good practice (and honesty!).

I have had two sellers who have agreed to combine postage in advance but then only discounted it. So, three small items that were all being (probably cheekily) listed with £2.90 postage would still fit into one small parcel. She wants to charge me £5.00, saying it's fair and take it or leave it.

I know we have a choice not to buy but cancelling a sale is a black mark and I find it odd that people are so blatant about postage rip-offs when they are scored specifically on it. I know it's currently at the seller's discretion but why doesn't eBay set a definition for combined postage?

EBay does a lot of things that don't make sense, unfortunately!

I guess it depends how much you want the items vs the principle!

If you do but them I'd definitely leave neutral / negative feedback, but keep it factual.

I'd pat for them all separately as the seller will be hit with two lots of PayPal charges, and tell the seller I expected to see them posted separately,

I do exactly as you OP always try to save people money. There are people you "meet" on eBay that just make no logical sense at all. It frustrates me so much but unfortunately not a lot you can do. Just have to remind yourself that not everyone is an intelligent as you and maybe the penny doesn't drop with these people

I always refund if my postage is less than I have estimated and find it insulting when taken for a ride on increased costs by some sellers,I had a small parcel arrive with £1.24 postage on it and I paid £3.90 I expected tracked delivery and it came standard 2nd class,the material of the item was a lot thinner than I had been lead to believe,hence the smaller package sellers should increase the price of their items not the price of the postage or do what I do and do free p&p and build the price you want into the listing.

I wish I was brave enough to leave negative feedback but I think if you buy knowing the max postage then you are making that choice. I will give her a big fat zero on her postage star rating though and block her from buying from me.

I do what you do. £5 for a £2.80 service is overcharging for postage and you can leave negative feedback for it. Ebay take a dim view of it.

why do you need to be brave to neg - it isn't like they can neg you back. And all the rubbish about knowing the price before buying - well if they are ripping you off you should neg. And if 2 items leave the negs 8 days apart if you want them to count as 2.

I think it definately depends on the weight of the items. I sell specialty books and when I combine I have to offer a discount instead of taking a whole postage price off otherwise I'd be out of pocket as it would go up a weight class. They all class as large letters in dimension but often to up to small parcel 1kg and 2kg depending on how many bought.

That being said, £2.85 is the max cost of 2nd class small parcel and heavier than that is around £14 so she's definately being a cheeky mare asking for a fiver when it's definately not costing her that much!
