So what kinds of things are worth selling on Ebay?

I've never used Ebay to sell anything before, and usually give our unwanted things to friends or charity. However, we are short of money and I'm wondering if I can raise some money selling a few things. I'm obviously not going to make a fortune but anything would be helpful.

What kinds of things are worth the effort of selling? I can't think of any big value items we have that we don't need, and I'm lacking inspiration. DC are 2 and 4. We have got rid of most baby clothes and the baby carseat. The buggy is still in use.

What do people do to decide what's worth selling? Look around the house, make a list and check against typical prices? I don't know where to start!

The easiest way is just to look on eBay for similar items and see what they are selling for.

When you're selling items the most important thing is to accurately describe them, including any marks / faults, you have 12 photos, try to use them all!

Also make sure you provide accurate charges for postage. You don't want to be out of pocket of piss off buyers by charging too much.

Agree with lottie. The best thing to do is to decide what you want to get rid of and check the finished items on eBay. Even the profit from low value items can soon mount up, if they don't take too long to prepare for sale and are easy to package for sending.

You will be surprised at what sells. Over the past couple of years I have sold such diverse things as Innocent Smoothie magnets, dd's Simpson Magazine collection and vintage knitting patterns. I have got into the habit of checking everything before I get rid. Good luck!

Thanks. I just don't know where to start really - there's lots we could get rid of, but we have plenty of storage, so it's not urgent. I will just make a list and check prices!

When i have bulk individual listings to do, I find it easier to sit down and do them all at once, or at least say 20 items at a time.

1. take photos
2. list items 3 ) package items, giving each parcel a small identifying mark so you know what's in there.

If you're running auctions that means they will finish at the same time ish, so hopefully the buyers will all pay about the same time and you can just stick the addresses on the parcels and take them to the PO in a one-er!

I've been selling for a while and you can pretty much sell anything. This is what works for me.

Buy it now
Research prices of items on eBay and original cost new
List for highest price you think it will sell for and reduce by a small amount once a week (this is normally £1 for me)
Offer free postage and packing (then there is no quibble over postage charges)
Take good photos and use all 12
Accurately describe the item and list any faults

For example...
The other week I sold some handmade sandals my Mum gave me. They were new without tags. I looked online and they were £55 + P&P from the original retailer. I originally listed them for £49.99. They sold for £47.99 (including P&P) a couple of weeks later. That was a lucky sale though things don't always go that quickly but I find that I make more money (with less hassle) with buy it now.

I began ebaying again about a year ago and have done quite nicely even from low value items.

I too list in bulk and try to get things to the PO in one go. I also have a weekly 'rhythm' of when listings end, when I post etc, which helps.

Anything that's unusual enough that people won't be buying it in the shop down the road. Clothes in sizes 18+. Bras in cup sizes E upwards.

With clothes, brand name is everything - bear in mind there are zillions of timewasters who will swear there is a mark you didn't mention and try to scam you.

Kids toys esp in October. Large items for collection, if you live in a city - most of my money has been from furniture and DP's old Airfix models! Lego sells well (my threat to ds regularly...)

Find stuff in your house you don't want to keep & use Advanced search/Sold items, to see if it will sell on Ebay. Buy It Now is usually a better seller than auctions.
If it's valuable but awkward size/fragile, try local FB pages.
If you don't expect to get £5 with postage, then just take it to charity shop.

Agree that it's not worth selling anything for less £5 (including postage).
