Pay pal account, new to this, is it necessary to verify? To make it more secure?

My son had £60 taken from his PayPal account he tells me, so I am a bit wary that my ignorance will get me into trouble. I only spend small amounts on eBay buying yarn mostly.

who took £60 out of his account? That is odd.

It's impossible that someone has "taken" £60 from his PayPal account, unless he authorised, either in the form of an immediate payment (purchase) or a recurring one (some kind of subscription). If you look at the payment in his account, it will tell you what it's for.

If on the off chance it is some kind of unauthorised payment, or he was tricked into signing up for something, or he paid for something he did not receive, he can contact PayPal to get the money refunded.

Has he by any chance had a message to say pay-pal where requesting verification of his account recently? if so his details may have been used if he did not check if the sender was indeed pay-pal,if this has happened pay-pal will reimburse him I should imagine,but that is the only way money can come out of his account.
