Refunding money despite item being as described. How do I avoid being out of pocket?

I sold a buggy and it was as described and in good working order. The buyer did not inspect and her husband simply collected it.

She now say it is not what she wanted and will I refund. I have agreed provided I am not paying eBay costs and PayPal costs which have already been taken out. They also want me to pay them cash as a refund.

How do I get back PayPal and eBay costs when I don't even know yet what eBay has taken? I can check PayPal to see their fees.

Bit peed off as she was quite offensive to start with until I proved what she was saying about the buggy was wrong. But I have agreed to take it back.

and yes - I already told you that paypal fees are refunded if you do the refund properly via the original payment. Don't send them the money as a payment and don't refund them with cash.

Snakesandbastards · 13/09/2015 09:57

Brilliant. I will let the buyer know they will get the full amount back. And when I relist I'll do as you say. I didn't know any of this as I've never had anyone return anything (don't sell much though). eBay do not seem fairy fair to sellers! I've posted another eBay question re my brother!

don't refund until you have the item back.

glammanana · 13/09/2015 10:57

Terms say that you must offer PayPal not that it is the only way of payment so as summer has stated always refund the payment straight away and insist on cash on collection if this ever happens again, also take the time to read up on ebay policies it is certainly worth the short time it to get to grips with their policies on refunds and returns its well worth the time spent.

Well it was returned damaged! Unfortunately I was busy and DH took it in. It has been put in a car boot (?) with something sharp causing a deep indent and stretch in the see through panel on the hood! Typical! Luckily not torn through. My own fault for not being here but what could I have done anyway? Refused to accept it? I only spotted it after a good look so probably wouldn't have seen it anyway immediately as it is under a flap.

I suspect I could have done nothing about it anyway as they would still have been found in favour by eBay having read multiple posts about how unfair they are to sellers.

I know the buyers are looking at buying a similar buggy so I have put RELISTED DUE TO TIMEWASTERS in the hope they will see it.

I also realise, before you say, they can leave me negative feedback (its100%) and I can't do the same to them (massively unfair) but I don't give a toss. I mainly buy anyway so it won't affect me. Rantrantrant Angry

If only I had known about the cash on collection/PayPal refunding thing Sad

well as they paid by paypal eBay would not have made you refund without trackable proof of delivery.

And putting relisted due to timewasters does make you look angry. The best thing you can do is add them to your blocked bidder list.

And putting relisted due to timewasters does make you look angry.

My instinctive reaction too. If I buy or sell I want to interact with calm reasonable people.

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 15/09/2015 20:11

They wouldn't have got a refund if they had paid cash though

poocatcherchampion · 15/09/2015 20:16

Relisted due to timewasters would put me off.

Snakesandbastards · 16/09/2015 08:54

Cheers. I'll remove the timewasters comment. It was only designed for them to see anyway (she said she was looking for a newer model urgently) as I have to reduce the price because of their damage.

I'm over it now, and it's only money. Grin

I don't know how you all put up with being sellers. My blood pressure can't take all the arses out there taking the p*. I have learned a lot at least from this experience.

Have you considered listing on gumtree? I do that with all collection only items now. No fees and allows cash.

Branleuse · 16/09/2015 09:05

fwiw I wont bid on items that say stuff like "relisted due to timewasters"

Makes you sound angry

QforCucumber · 16/09/2015 09:13

Once a cancellation is processed the ability to leave the feedback is also removed so noone can leave angry negative feedback either.
