Do I give them cash when I pick it up, rather than pay via paypal?

I'm the confirmed bid winner, and it takes me to "pay now via paypal" as usual, but I think someone said you should pay cash if you are collecting?

We usually pay cash on collection.

You can just give them cash but you're no longer covered by beats buyers guarantee or whatever it's called. So it depends on what you're buying and the value as to whether or not I would pay cash.

the risk of accepting paypal for a collection only item falls to the seller, not the buyer, if they've specified paypal then id just use that.

however, spottyteacakes, sellers are advised NOT to accept paypal when selling collection only items, as it voids their seller protection, so if youre buying a collection only item in future, a lot of sellers will ONLY accept cash.

an if you pay paypal and then it turns out to be not as described you would have to return tracked in order to get a refund.

But if you pay cash then you're not covered through the eBay buyers protection? (So I was told on here recently) does that mean if you pay cash then there's no way of being covered? (As a buyer at least).

Not sure, in our case paying on collection is for things like archery targets, bikes, a climbing frame, a piece of old furniture etc., etc..

no you aren't covered if you pay cash - and no seller worth their salt will ever take paypal for a collected item either.

Which is why when you collect you must inspect thoroughly and if not as described walk away and keep your money.

In my mind it makes sense to pay cash on the sort of items we buy that need collection - not up to description means I walk away with my cash in my pocket rather than having to bother going through the paypal/ebay process of getting anything I had already paid back.

I would be happy to pay a deposit through paypal if required.

We collected something recently and the seller was moving house that day. Big item as above, I didn't know the person, was much easier to turn up with cash - what if they were dodgy and had miraculously moved a day early? I would have to go through the process of claiming my money back.

That's a good point I see what you mean

If you ever sell anything that's to be collected never EVER accept PayPal. The buyer could walk away with the item, say they didn't receive it, and PayPal would refund them as there is no evidence it has been delivered.
