Item sold a while ago, buyer slow to pay - posted and it's now come back to me as not picked up in the 18 days I think you have to collect from the sorting office - messaged them to say , said I would refund but not postage.

They have still not contacted me - so it is ok to go ahead and do this and relist or do I need to cancel the order or something as I couldn't see an obvious answer on the eBay website

I'm a bit confused has the buyer contacted you since it was returned?

I'm afraid you have to refund including the postage costs. Not very fair, I agree, but sadly those are the rules.

Find the option to cancel the order and select the reason as "issue with the buyers address". The buyer will then be refunded, you will get your feed back and you can relist.

Add said buyer to your blocked list to save being messed about by them again.

Just tried to cancel but it's been more than 30 days so I can't ! can you not send them a question anymore or do you have to phone them now ??

If it's been over 30 days then toure under no obligation to refund , unless they open a case with PayPal.

So you have three choices

  1. ignore and if they chase at a later date refund (via PayPal directly).

  2. ignore and if they contact you at a later date do nothing as you are not obliged to refund at this stage, although the buyer could leave negative feedback.

  3. refund them in full or minus the postage just now anyway. This can be done by locating the transaction in your PayPal account and clicking "refund payment"

You do have the choice now whether to refund the postage or not as its over 30 days within eBay.....

Hope that makes sense! Basically as the 30 days are over they have lost their buyer protection so anything you offer is essentially a goodwill gesture. PayPal cases can be opened up to 180 days later, but tbh most buyers don't realise that.
