PayPal 'pending'

Behooven · 09/08/2015 11:19

I've won and paid for an item, on my PayPal a/c it is showing as payment completed, no issues. The seller has contacted me to say her Paypal is showing as 'pending' so she won't post it until it is confirmed. What can this be?

You both need to make sure that the email address being used for envy and paypal are the same....this happens when they aren't. I ended up having to refund the money to my buyer and then he sent a direct payment via paypal. It was my fault as I had an old email address on the account and forgot.

Behooven · 09/08/2015 11:24

Hi shush, I messaged her with the e-mail address showing on PayPal but I'll try again and ask her to double check

That should have read eBay and paypal....stupid autocorrect! Hope it works.

I never used PayPal and was sent money by a friend. As I was new it was set to pending with a note saying to protect my "customer" it will be pending until sent and received by them or 5 weeks.

Your seller needs to speak to PayPal to clarify why it is pending and you need to monitor your complaints window and raise a dispute if not recieved. This is why I dislike Paypal.

wrong email address on listing - did they make a typo when listing?

SacredHeart · 09/08/2015 12:01

Moreover, I just logged on and PayPal reminded me it was pending and why. Your seller needs to read.

MrsExcited · 09/08/2015 12:08

Paypal holds the money until item is recieved by the buyer and transaction is all confirmed.

She needs to post item to you before she will get her money.

It is there system to protect buyers.

Could it be that you've sent an e-cheque OP:

and echeque shows as uncleared - a pending payment is wrong email address. You need to login to paypal and cancel it and then ask seller for their correct email address so you can pay them direct.

Behooven · 09/08/2015 13:58

H, thanks all, I used Paypal to pay, not an excheque. I messaged her this morning re the email address and just waiting to hear back at the mo.

an echeque is via paypal - it just takes longer to clear.

the email address you paid to - does it look like it could be a typo or a . in the wrong place.

This has happened to me when selling things on ebay. Once I've got proof of postage I've scanned and emailed it to their customer service team and the funds have then been released to me.

Behooven · 09/08/2015 14:06

Butterfly - I didn't know that. She has a very straightforward hotmail address. I noticed there are only 5 feed backs, maybe she is new to selling, wonder if that makes a difference.

Annoying, it's something I've always wanted and a total bargain, hope the sale doesn't fall through Sad

CrystalMcPistol · 09/08/2015 14:07

It won't be anything to do with the email address it is just Paypal being cautious.

igetitnow · 09/08/2015 14:07

With new sellers they don't get money until item received by the buyer and positive feedback given. It is to protect buyers.

Behooven · 09/08/2015 14:10

Wish I could send her this thread (obv I won't) Smile

Paypal/Ebay do this when a seller hasn't had a lot of sales yet. It's because they guarantee your money, and they want to be sure they aren't out of pocket themselves. They call it "new seller hold" - advise your seller to search for that term in the help page, and to email Ebay herself for confirmation. Basically until you agree the item has arrived and is okay, she won't get her money, so by not sending she is delaying everything for all sides. In fairness, she has no way to know that, and Ebay are making it look to her as if she'd be bonkers to send.

sleeponeday · 09/08/2015 14:45

Here is the Ebay explanation.

butterflygirl15 · 09/08/2015 14:45

it could be an old email which she needs to manually add to her paypal in order to receive the payment. Is there a cancel button next to the payment in paypal?

if a hold has been put on the payment eBay will have told her about this.

sleeponeday · 09/08/2015 14:46

Ugh, sorry, reverted to search. Type in Why is PayPal payment being held? and the explanation pops up.

sleeponeday · 09/08/2015 14:47

Butterflygirl new sellers are always in this situation. I've yet to have one know it, or understand it, until I have explained it to them. It's not something older sellers ever had to contend with.

Behooven · 09/08/2015 23:33

Sorted! It was as sleep says, new seller so payment withheld.
