fake trainers

i found a pair of nike trainers that were described as 100% genuine.dopey me,thought i was getting a bargain!!

i paid £24 plus £9 p&p

the trainers arrived and they just didnt look right,so i went on a nokia shop website (not ebay) and the same make as mine were different (the colouring around them was different and also the quality of the stitching)

my mum (she had bid on them for me as i was going to be out when they finished) emailed the seller and he said they are genuine.

we looked on ebay at the VERO bit and got in touch with nike.they asked for photos and we emailed them.they emailed back to say tehy are fake.

the seller is based in middlesex and it looks like he has quite a few ebay names and sells all the same trianers from the same area with the same high postage costs (it cost him £3.38 to post them)

nike are now looking into it,weve got in touch with the trading standards there and ive lost £32!!

so if you are thinking of buying any trainers,be careful!!

This was on Watchdog the other day - all branded stuff like this is suspect on eBay, IMO. (Not saying there's not lots of genuine stuff - just the "bargains" are not always really bargains).

YOu should be able to get a refund from ebay as the goods weren't what you ordered. Did you pay by Paypal? Get in touch with ebay and register a complaint.

BettySpaghetti · 21/11/2006 13:49

There was something on TV about this recently (?Watchdog) -I wasn't really watching it so I'm not sure what advice they gave but someone else might have seen it and be able to suggest something.

Have you contacted ebay?

buffythenappyslayer · 21/11/2006 13:49

i didnt see watchdog but went on there website when i got these trainers.

my dad worked out that this seller has made £57,000 in a year and a bit from all the ones hes sold!!all are fake!!

my mum emailed some of the other people who have bought from him and the 8 that emailed her back said they had got fake ones and the seller wouldnt refund.

we contacted ebay and they emailed back saying they would get in touch with the seller but that it was confidential between them and the seller.

paid by postal orders so dont kow if ebay would refund.

just had a call from trading standards in pwllheli, and they want my mum to go in to see them tomorrow as trading st in middlesex got in touch with them and theyd like to investigate it.

my mum asked about my getting the money back and tehy said tehy will sort something out tomorrow.

so its looking good for me getting my money back and bad for the dodgy seller!

have you reported the seller to ebay? he should find his account closed down

Hopefully if trading standards are involved he could also find himself facing criminal charges!!

good luck with getting your money back, just out of interest does he accept paypal? if people pay that way they have some chance of getting their money back

buffythenappyslayer · 22/11/2006 17:52

nike have said they will refund my money, and want the trainers sending to them.he has been reported to ebay, and theyve removed the same ones i bought, but left all the others on there that hes selling (all nike!!)

he does accept paypal, but he refuses to email anyone back when they have complained to him.

OP posts:
Thecharmed1 · 22/11/2006 18:17

Do you mind telling me his name please!

helenhismadwife · 22/11/2006 19:22

name and shame him then we can all report him for selling fakes!! I have a feeling though its nike who have to complain to e bay to get him shut down

7up · 22/11/2006 19:27

i bought some nike air max trainers off ebay for my ds and they are very plasticky and stink of cheapness buthopefully he wont notice

buffythenappyslayer · 23/11/2006 09:18

pj8684 and purplecrazycat1962

these are jsut two of the names hes using.but its definately the same person,he charges the same price for the trainers and also the same high postage, plus hes in the same place!

buffy, this is dreadful, but well done for getting Nike and Trading Standards involved. Even without Paypal payment, you can still report this to ebay, though getting a refund isn't guaranteed.

Also, the others are right - name and shame the seller. You can also get help and advice from www.goofbay.com on their 'forum' section and have a look at www.ukauctionhelp.co.uk/directory.php?dkno=24

And another thing (nearly finished, honest...) when you search 'Nike Trainers' on ebay, to the left of the results page, you will usually see some reviews and guides - have a look at these, some of the sellers who publish them will be very helpful, and could also add your seller to a blacklist.

Good luck

buffythenappyslayer · 23/11/2006 11:12

thanks mykids for the addresses.

im hoping that anyone seeing them names (pj8684 and purplecrazycat1962) and thinking about getting anything from him, will now think again.

nike have said they will refund my money (what i apid and how much it will cost to send them back to them) so at least im getting something back.

i was stupid not to look at his feedback before getting my mum to bid on them!thats taught me a lesson!!

OP posts:
helenhismadwife · 23/11/2006 11:47

the thing is buffy his feedback is good he is a power seller supposedly as e bay claim 'trustworthy' this is exactly the sort of seller that watchdog was reporting on the other week!!

E bay will do nothing unless Nike contact them because they make loads of money out people like him I know what my ebay fees are like so his must b e really high!!
