Just a thread for ebay ranting really. Bit pointless but it will make me feel better:

Sold jeans for 99p, I get 13p of it, and a trip to post office with 3 kids oh lucky me.

DD sold some toys and made £20, but she's paid £7.70 in fees. Previously I never deducted the cost of the fees for the children's stuff, I passed the whole amount on to them, but 7 flippin quid!!

And I ballsed up another jeans listing, I put leg length as 30 and realised with 11:50hr to go that they were a 28 inch - ebay chat just did a "computer says no" routine on me and ended the chat immediately, I cancelled the first few bids but got home late and people had bid again and now the winner has paid, but wont reply to my message about the leg length. Now I know full well if I send them, she can claim through PayPal as incorrectly described, and I'll have to refund, plus pay her return postge if I want them back (so I'll be out of pocket)

So. Friggin. Cross!!

Share your rants here with me. Ebay are arsewipes. Wtf are they doing charging fees on postage? I mean, we don't pay things like vat on postage so how have they been allowed to get away with this? If its to try and stop people making a profit on postage its a joke, I've only ever charged people the actual postage cost, in my 10 years of ebaying. Its gone to the dogs, I tell you!!

Your DD sold something for £20 (+p&p) and paid £7.70 fees????? That doesn't sound right.

I sold an item and the buyer said it didn't fit could they return it. I said yes. 2 weeks pass, no item, and they ask where their refund was. I said can't refund until I get it back, or see valid PoP or tracking. They didn't have it.

They then leave me negative feedback, saying I "ripped them off", but will ebay remove it? of course not.

OP ebay fees should be 10% (yes on item plus postage :-( ) plus 3.5% on paypal + 20p paypal. I round it up to 15% for the transaction. £7.70 sounds too much on a £20 sale so I would check on that. Keep persevering with messaging about jeans and only send if buyer happy otherwise ask them if you can cancel transaction (if they agree you get fvf fees back) Start listing with minimum you will be ok to sell for. It is no longer free to start at 99p anyway.

Lottie - buyer must return for a refund unless you have agreed to refund and let them keep which you didn't. Can you escalate this - try ringing ebay and disputing - if you win dispute the neg will be removed. Buyer needs proof of returning your item.

£7.70 fees on a £20 sale doesn't sound right.

I've just had a big wardrobe clearout and started everything at £5, there's no point starting it at .99p unless you know for certain its going to end with a bidding war.

Sorry I didn't make that very clear - the £20.48 is what she's left with, after the fees. It was 3 items in total adding up to 26.70 plus postage, so 3 lots of ebay fees plus 3 lots of PayPal fees she's still done better than me out of the clearout so far, crafty little bugger . Clearly I was too ranty to explain it properly this morning! and have just confused myself double checking it

Thanks for the advice. I think I will give the buyer until tomorrow morning to get back to me about the incorrect listing on the jeans, then refund her and cancel the sale. I've bent over backwards to keep my feedback at 100% for 10 years and I don't want to muck it up, I haven't sold that much in the last year so one negative could leave my feedback in the low 90s wouldn't it?

It might be a good idea to find lots of cheaper things to sell and that way you can build up your feedback score quickly it stops you taking a big knock if something goes pear shaped in the future because you only need one high value item to go "missing" or NAD and your score will be hit hard.

which is why you never start anything at 99p. Utter waste of time, especially now listing is free at any price, there is no need to start so low.

Name change, would it be better to cancel the transaction for the jeans with the 28 inch legs? The winning bidder might be annoyed, but you won't have to send the jeans, then pay for someone to return them.
