Heavy sandals

I bought a pair of Faith summer sandals from someone on eBay who looks like a semi pro shop (1400 transactions with a couple of negative feedbacks). They haven't been worn and are in new condition and I paid £10.95 plus £2.95 postage.

They are platform wedgies and the sole is solid plastic material and they weigh 14.4 ounces each. They are really heavy and uncomfortable. Does anyone think I have grounds for returning them? For comparison my hiking boots weigh 1lb 6 ounces each. My DH thinks I am being ridiculous.

No but the opening bid was £10.95.

What was their returns policy? Although I've heard some posters on here say that the buyer is always in the right re returns.

If you bought them from a business seller then you are entitled to return them for a full refund (you don't need to give a reason), as long as you pay the return postage (as they're not faulty).

If you scan through the options against the sale record, there should be an option to return them because they don't fit / aren't suitable.

but on the upside, heavy shoes are great for leg/butt toning!

They say they do not accept returns.

On further investigation they are not a 'proper shop' just an amateur selling a lot of items. Am I being frivolous? The weight of a pair of summer sandals isn't something you think about.

I have written to the seller and asked to return the shoes. I think I might be covered by the eBay money back guarantee.

I vow I will never buy footwear on eBay again. It's nothing but trouble.

If they are a private seller then they don't have to accept returns unless the item is faulty.

You could claim back on the eBay guarantee, but I'm a bit hmmmm on this, as the seller will get a defect and may have to cover the return postage, which isn't really fair. You'd be arguing that the item was misdescribed, which isn't really the case here, but I do see your point......

Wait and see what the seller says. Chances are they may agree to accept the return if you cover the postage. A good seller will do that, and if they don't then maybe I wouldn't feel too bad about opening a case?

Ahhhh I'm still on the fence with this one.

The seller can write no returns but then if a buyer files a not as described dispute they will normally win.

I wouldn't expect a seller to state sandals were heavy, but if they are unwearable I guess you do have a point!

I think I should meet the postage on this.
I am a bit hmm with this too however I have a pair of unwearable weighty shoes. I have shown them to family and friends in the hope of selling them on and they have all said lovely shoes but they are cumbersome.

If I put them back on eBay I just give someone else the grief of receiving a pair of heavy shoes and I don't think that's fair.

I would just sell them on but be honest about the weight. I don't think the seller is at fault.

Seller has agreed to refund. She herself thought they were heavy when she packed them. I'll meet the postage.

If I as a seller and had reflected the weight of the item in my postage costs, I wouldn't have refunded. You were lucky there!
