Combining postage - what's reasonable to charge?

Just that, really - if somebody wants to buy two or more things from me, what do I do about postage?

I was thinking that the most expensive item should be charged as that, then £1 extra for subsequent items - is this reasonable?

Unles I've actually said i'll combine post at a certain rate, I tend to round up the total amount owed to a sensible looking figure eg if it was due to be 11.77, I'd let them have it for a tenner.

I've had somebody ask if I'll combine postage - so I want to be a bit more specific than "oh, I'll knock a bit off for you" iyswim?

But that does sound sensible - I might do that another time.

Check how much they weight together and pop them on the scales then check the royal mail website as it could cost less to send them seperatly.
Sometimes it works out like that.

I am in the same position. I think I will just see how much the total would have been separately - work out what it will cost me, and come up with a sensible number so that I am not out of pocket.

Thanks, ladies. Will answer this one with "a quid extra for each subsequent item" I think, and ponder it more fully if I list more stuff.

Addictive, ebay, isn't it?!

Sneakymouse, if I've several things for sale all weighing similar amounts (eg clothing) I itemise all the postage separately at a realistic cost, telling bidders at the time of listing that anyone who wins 2+ items ending at the same time to wait for my invoice, as I will make a deduction at that point, without committing to a particular sum iyswim. It seems to work fine; normally I deduct £1 or so per extra item.
