Sick of buyers not reading listings and paying by paypal for collections

It makes me so mad, I message them straight after asking for Cash on collection and what so they do? Pay by paypal. It annoys me as eBay policy is cash on collection for furniture as they could just turn round and say they haven't collected and demand a refund through paypal and get it.
I often refund them but this costs me on paypal (I think). She is insistent on her son collecting. I think she saw my message but just wanted the some to collect without him having to pay...

I thought you had to offer paypal? That you could politely ask for cash on collection, or say you would prefer it, but if the buyer wanted to use Paypal then they could? I would never buy through anything other than paypal or a bank transfer. Too dodgy.

I haven't sold anything for yonks, but you had to last time I did. It protects both seller and buyer. "She" can't say she gave you too much, and you can't say she never paid.

You can't disable the paypal option and I always clearly state cash on collection but they ignore it. Cash isn't dodgy it allows then to make sure they are happy on collection, this way she could just say she never had the item and claim the money back, right annoying.

The simple solution is to make sure both parties sign a receipt on collection so you have proof that it was collected.

Ebay makes you offer paypal, you can't disable it. Also if you're on BIN, check that your listings don't have the 'require immediate payment' option enabled.

Then if people still make a paypal payment (and it's kind of a good thing, shows they are serious) you email them, tell them it's cash on collection only and refund their paypal payment. AFAIK it doesn't cost to do this, paypal refunds the part of the fee that it's collected.

People just don't read the detail of the listings tbh, they just don't. The number of people who message me to say, "whereabouts in London are you?" when I've put that info IN EXTRA BIG LETTERS in the listing...

When I first started ebaying years and years ago I posted on MN for advice, and someone said, "Always remember that the intellectual capacity of ebayers is extremely variable". I have found that to be true.

And organising a signed receipt on collection will not be accepted by ebay as proof of delivery. Mad, but true. Only the specified post or courier tracking/recording details count for that purpose.

I must admit I had a company pickup an item on behalf of a customer and she paid by paypal. I think I got them to sign they had collected it.

ebay would have seen my correspondence beforehand with me asking for cash and the customer explaining the logistics

Yes that's true, they could see my messages...even so they still recommend cash on collection and ALWAYS come down on the side of the buyer

can you not email them the reciept via recorded delivery to use as proof via paypal should an item not recieved be opened.

Email them the receipt they would sign on collection, or are we talking a different receipt?

no you never take paypal for a collected item - and getting a buyer to sign a piece of paper is utterly worthless

it is stupid that eBay insist on paypal being offered while they know it offers sellers no protection when an item is collected. I wish they would offer a resolution.

Woodhill - you must never let a buyer arrange their own courier either. emails mean nothing. And Lilqueenie - that is fraud as you only have proof of the delivery of a piece of paper, so no you cannot do that.

the buyer paid someone man with van company and I had to trust her, it was fine, not a high value item.

I agree in an ideal world you wouldn't but tgebuyer had a genuine breason and I trusted her but wouldn't make a habit of it.

perhaps ebay need the buyer to do something, like a request or something

What gets me is this could be resolved really easily by eBay. So they recommend cash on collection so when you click on this why can't you therefore have the option to disable paypal that way no one can pay this way, simple.

they advertise paypal as offering protection and of course with cash they lose out on fees so they won't promote cash payments only.
