Just sold an item for local pick up only. It is a large tent.

Congratulations, you have sold your item! Please contact the buyer to arrange for them to collect.

The buyer is a Chinese person living in Gardena, CA 90248-3023 United States. They have 118 feedback with 100%.

I am in South East England.

What on earth do I do?

NoArmaniNoPunani · 23/05/2015 08:49

Ask them when they are collecting :)

Psippsina · 23/05/2015 08:51

Why would someone bid though, I don't understand. It's bonkers.

Argh i had this a few times now and it drives me mad. I find they tend to ignore you until you tell ebay the buyer hasnt paid

eatingworms · 23/05/2015 08:54

Sorry a bit off topic but I'm looking for a large tent on eBay at the moment, what kind is it? I've been watching a few.

RedDwarfPosse · 23/05/2015 08:54

This happened to me last week... only they were still in the UK at least (I'm south east, buyer in South Wales)

The listing was CLEARLY marked 'collection only' but he still wanted me to send it (it was a coffee machine!)

I agreed but only after insisting he pay for the courier cost, but still gave him the option to cancel advising that after the cost of the courier he could go out and buy a brand new one...but no he still wanted it sent and paid the courier price.

I don't get why, I really don't - it was only a standard coffee machine you can buy anywhere Confused

LynetteScavo · 23/05/2015 08:55

Maybe they are in England on holiday?

Or maybe they are just really stupid.

Psippsina · 23/05/2015 08:57

[Link removed at OP's request]

It's old and a bit knackered but thought someone might like it!

Coffee machine by courier? That's crazy Smile

I am not posting this to America, it's not even possible. It's VAST!

OP posts:
Psippsina · 23/05/2015 08:58

I did wonder Lynette, if they are travelling here. If so then that's fine but they will have a heck of a job trying to get it home.

I feel a bit sorry for them, they are obviously good ebayers normally but it's such a waste of time.

OP posts:
LynetteScavo · 23/05/2015 08:59

Well, that explains it!

They are obviously flying to England for a camping holiday! Grin they are probably hiring a car at Heathrow as I type.

fairgame · 23/05/2015 09:09

Maybe there is an American town with the same name as the place you live and they got confused Confused

Sleepyfergus · 23/05/2015 09:12

Maybe there's a fetish market for used coffee machines?

Dirty filters, dirty dirty filters.

BlisterFace · 23/05/2015 09:15

fergus Grin Grin

Oliversmumsarmy · 23/05/2015 09:26

Had a dog guard for an estate car. Collection only as was quite large. Person who bought it insisted I send it. I had to wrap it, take it down the post office to weigh it, bring it back, message them, take it back down the post office, send it and then they got annoyed because they thought the postage was a rip off, I had charged them exactly the amount that was on the postage label.

SabrinnaOfDystopia · 23/05/2015 09:36

Is that your ds in the pics? He's a cutie - perhaps they thought they were bidding on him?! Grin

RedDwarfPosse · 23/05/2015 09:43

Hadn't thought of that Fergus... He has sent me some very articulate emails about how considerate he thinks I am, and once he received the coffee machine he was full of superlatives about how well I'd packaged the item and how good the coffee tastes from the machine.... All very very odd!

Psippsina · 23/05/2015 10:01

Oh thank you, yes, this is ds2, 'helping' with the photos. It's a few years old though. He is no longer so cute Grin

No word so far. They are probably asleep somewhere in California...

sigh

HazleNutt · 23/05/2015 10:09

you said collection only, so it's up to them to collect. Careful it's not a scam though! Google courier scams, there are many different ones around.

LynetteScavo · 23/05/2015 11:49

The last time I sold something on ebay it was collection only, but had several people ask me if I would send it, and one lady begged and begged, so I relented, but told her the cost of courier, which wasn't cheap.

It was buy it now, or give an offer,(whatever it's called) the lady then put in a very low offer because of the cost of postage. Grin I politely declined her offer.

Cherryapple1 · 23/05/2015 11:49

you need to block buyers from abroad - and ending at that time of day is pretty pointless tbh. Evenings are much better.

Psippsina · 23/05/2015 11:57

Thank you. Lynette, I've had that loads too. Really annoying.

Thanks everyone.

It gets worse though. Just had a message,

'Hello. This is Republic of Korea'.

Hmm

I have replied, 'Hello. May I ask why you bid on my tent?'

They have a full address in California. What the actual Jeff?!

(Cherry - thanks - I listed it at 6am as I had time to, therefore it ended then as well - could not be bothered to schedule listing time! Lazy I know)

OP posts:
Psippsina · 23/05/2015 11:58

How do I block buyers from abroad btw? I already have 'block buyers who live somewhere you don't post to', I think.

I don't post to Korea or the US&A

OP posts:
Psippsina · 23/05/2015 12:00

Just checked, it's no longer blocked, I imagine this is an ebay update glitch and they have helpfully changed my settings for me.

OP posts:
DiDiddlyIDi · 23/05/2015 12:11

I live Hk but have a London address on eBay, they might live just around the corner

Psippsina · 23/05/2015 14:14

Latest message:

'Tents interest, do you Korea Free Delivery Service?'

Hmm
OP posts:
Cherryapple1 · 23/05/2015 14:36

oh dear - just send a cancellation request
