is this normal. She hasn't sold anything before but has bought loads.

I haven't paid yet, what you you do. It's for a dress 13.00

what is her feedback like...is she a good payer?

CountTo10 · 08/11/2006 20:19

A lot of sellers are like that as they don't want chqs that bounce etc. Check her feedback etc to see what she's like for paying.

kid · 08/11/2006 20:21

You can get postal orders and cross them (put her name on the front) so they will have to be cashed through a bank account.

lulumama · 08/11/2006 20:22

agree with kid.....

beckybrastraps · 08/11/2006 20:23

We don't take cheques. Only paypal, PO or cash on collection.

We are legit!

UCM · 08/11/2006 20:25

Yep, from sellers she is fantastic, but tbh, she would be cos' she wants the stuff they are selling IYKWIM.

So do I just put her name in two lines, like on one of my cheques where it says a/c payee across the PO?
Thanks for that advice BTW.

I'm not sure as I have never used them myself, that does sound about right though!

fairydust · 08/11/2006 20:27

she might be doing it like this as she's doesn't have a bank accont? or sh'es desperate for the money and it'll take longer if it goes in to her account - just a point

UCM · 08/11/2006 20:28

I will put her name on the PO and if she doens't like it - She can whistle. I have just checked her reply to me again and she says I take postal order or cash sent at own risk!

UCM · 08/11/2006 20:31

Aww FD feel bad now. She might be desparate.

beckybrastraps · 08/11/2006 20:31

I would expect the postal order to be made payable to me (or dh, who does most of the selling). We don't like cheques because of the problems with clearing. That's all. Nothing sinister!

beckybrastraps · 08/11/2006 20:32

We don't necessarily trust our BUYERS!

VanillaMilkshake · 08/11/2006 20:40

UCM - perhaps she has a problem with paypal - you can only have so may £'s worth of transactions before you have to get verified - I think?

magnolia1 · 08/11/2006 20:45

I don't take crossed postal orders because they are the same as a cheque and take 6 working days to clear in my bank So I only take paypal or uncrossed postal orders.

earlysbird · 08/11/2006 20:58

or she might not want to have to pay the paypal fees - I was thinking of dropping paypal from my list of payment options

earlysbird · 08/11/2006 20:59

though that doesn't explain why no cheques...

chipmonkey · 08/11/2006 22:04

Maybe she doesn't have a credit card? I think if you don't have a credit card and the buyer tries to pay with a credit card through paypal, the payment bounces.
(By the way, UCM the clothes I got from you are fab!
Everyone loves ds3 in the navy sleepsuits!)

UCM · 09/11/2006 07:57

Hi CM, I am soooo glad. I was worried about the cost of sending it though

OP posts:
UCM · 09/11/2006 07:58

I am going to bite bullet and send a normal PO. If she reneges on the deal, I will come back and rant on here

I dont accept cheques either, Only cash and po's.

i don't use paypal as their charges are too high, i don't acept cheques as my local bank is 3 miles away and have to use public transport, where as I have a post office just round the corner. I'm legit as well.

helenhismadwife · 10/11/2006 16:42

sounds fine to me I dont accept personal cheques as I have had a few bounce on me after I have sent stuff , mainly I use paypal only on my auctions, but hate it because of the really high fees they charge me for accepting the payments, but its easier for me because I am in france and cant bank cheques or cash postal orders here.

Skyler · 10/11/2006 16:45

You can just cash a PO with a name on it at the PO though. You don't need a bank account. I think you just show some ID....

chipmonkey · 10/11/2006 21:36

Don't worry UCM, I'm used to Royal Mail charges. I mostly buy from the UK. I sometimes think I'm the only person in Ireland apart from dh who uses ebay! Good luck with your purchase!

UCM · 11/11/2006 07:59

Thanks CM.

I posted an open PO yesterday, signed for. I let her know I was sorry for posting it so late as I couldn't get to PO blah blah and she sent a lovely email.

The only thing that pissed me off a bit was the fact that I had to pay 1.14 for the PO and 90p for the signed for, so the dress cost me 2.00 more than I expected. Sounds petty, but it all adds up really.

I was told by my building society that these new postal orders now have to be cleared like cheques and can't be cashed at the post offices anymore. They used to put them down as cash when I paid them into my account, but now they take a full 7 days to clear, just like any cheques I pay in.They said it's now like this to combat the growing amount of fraud that's about,so be prepared to wait a while to recieve any items if paying by PO.
