Help! That buyer IS dodgy. I knew it!

I am new to Ebaying. I sold a pair of shoes (£65) and the buyer wanted to collect in person and pay through Paypal. She paid via Paypal but after posters on here said not to allow collection, I posted the parcel this morning (tracked) and cancelled the meet-up pleading an emergency.

Anyway, just now I have had the following message:

i received today a.parcel with a plate, via hermes. wrong name on the parcel. i only expect your shoes so perhaps this is your plate? and shoes were posted to some other person? many thanks.

My parcel couldn't have arrived that fast (Royal Mail) and I paid to get it tracked and it says it is on it's way.

I feel so uneasy about this transaction, is there anything I can do?

Hi ,
Someone more knowledgeable will hopefully give you some answers but I think what you can do is to include the tracking number in the eBay listing and send a mail to the buyer to say the parcel has been sent by tracked postage and current status says it's still on it way.
You should be protected by eBay as long as it's a tracked postage .

Akire · 23/04/2015 01:04

Did you have a plate to sell? Presumably not! Why does she think is from you? Hermes are pretty good with tracking and time slots can you ring them with tracking and get the pârcel cancelled?

Akire · 23/04/2015 01:06

She should have to sign for it so it will be recorded electronically wheb it has been received at her addresss. So she can't really deny having it!

AddToBasket · 23/04/2015 01:59

Thanks for replies. I didn't have a plate to sell! I am worried because a plate weighs the same as a pair of women's shoes (average 0.7kgs) - I don't think it is a coincidence, I think it's a set up.

Basically, I think the buyer intended to collect then open a Not Shipped case. Now I think she is angling for a Significantly Not As Described (i.e. Plate not shoes). My tracking details won't make any difference to that as plate/shoes would look the same.

Howver, I didn't use Hermes, I used Royal Mail. And it couldn't have got there on the same day. And she shouldn't be opening post addressed to other people!

SavoyCabbage · 23/04/2015 01:59

Once I actually didn't get a parcel but somebody had signed for it (nobody I knew or had ever heard of it) and ebay said that because the seller had proof of postage then I couldn't get my money back.

I would message her back and tell her it's on it's way and give her the tracking number. Tell her the plate is nothing at all to do with you.

SavoyCabbage · 23/04/2015 02:01

Perhaps you should do the live chat option on ebay for advice.

Even if you had used Hermes the tracking numbers would not be the same.

Perhaps she's just a bit daft and it will all work out.

Akire · 23/04/2015 02:01

Hopefully your pârcel will arrive safe n sound. I mean what are the odds one day she gets a parcel that's not for her... The next day her pârcel didn't arrive lol
Tracked is your friend

Cherryapple1 · 23/04/2015 07:50

sounds like she is confusing you with another seller.

I just hope RM do get a signature for your item as they often don't. How long ago was it posted? And add the tracking number to the eBay transaction too.

AddToBasket · 23/04/2015 08:07

I uploaded the Tracking Number immediately so she could have checked.

It is dodgy, I'm sure. Who gets post addressed to someone else and opens it?

OP posts:
nauticant · 23/04/2015 08:35

The buyer could be dodgy so I'd not reveal my hand just yet. I'd respond and say that you are sure you sent the shoes marked with the correct name and address and say that you expect your package to turn up shortly.

If you get a dated signature, you'll have proof of delivery plus direct proof that the plate (if it exists) is an unrelated matter.

glammanana · 23/04/2015 09:08

Make sure you have updated the tracking number on pay-pal & e-bay so they can be seen on her purchased list, she must surely know what she has bought for goodness sake unless she is totally daft ? As stated myhermes & Post Office use different number/letter sequence for tracking so no chance of them being mixed up.What date is your delivery expected by surely she was not expecting next day delivery.

Perfectlypurple · 23/04/2015 09:13

Reply saying it can't be your parcel as you had only sent it that day with the tracking number for the correct one. It is probably a mis directed parcel from someone else.

Viviennemary · 23/04/2015 09:14

She's a scammer I'm almost sure of it. Wanted to collect the shoes and then open an item l not received case. Just say what the others advised. The parcel is on it's way and the parcel she has received was not the one you sent.

Perfectlypurple · 23/04/2015 09:16

Meant to say it doesn't mean it is dodgy. Oh and tell her you haven't used Hermes. I don't think she is dodgy. I think you are just expecting something. Are you the op that was worried she was money laundering?

AddToBasket · 23/04/2015 09:16

My delivery will turn up today - I paid for special delivery. (Not some same day courier!)

Posted at 10.30am yesterday. The Royal Mail tracking number was put up on eBay by 11am. She contacted me at 11pm to say she'd received a plate byHermes that day.

OP posts:
AddToBasket · 23/04/2015 09:23

Yes, I was worried about money laundering. Grin.

The Reason I am so suspicious is because all her interaction is 'off'. Lots of personal information volunteered (giving me details about her, her partner etc) that were nothing to do with the transaction. It was a bit odd. My excuse about cancelling the Collect in Person was I was taking my dog to the vet. She replied with 'Oh give the little one a cuddle from us'.

I appreciate people can overshare and that doesn't affect them being good buyers. But my concern was enough to pay £8.55 at my own cost to make sure the parcel went special delivery.

I have sold 61 items in the past month and this is the only transaction that has made me feel like this (so far!).

"Hi ebayname, the plate is definitely not from me. Perhaps it was meant for the named addressee but the sender put the wrong house number, who knows.

Your shoes will be with you today, I hope you like them. Thanks"

Cherryapple1 · 23/04/2015 09:36

I don't think she is dodgy either. She prob got sent an incorrect item by a different seller and just got confused.

But add her to your blocked bidder list anyway.

Cherryapple1 · 23/04/2015 09:37

And you could have sent them via Hermes for half the cost btw.

iK8 · 23/04/2015 09:38

I've read your other thread and I agree with the posts on there. eBay is probably not for you with your Columbo tendencies and rather over active imagination Grin Grin

I can't see anything dodgy because a) she's only asked if it's your parcel and b) none of the tracking stuff matches c) she's not tried anything other than to buy your shoes and pay you cash on collection which you have been super weird about! If I was your buyer I would be pretty fed up.

I don't see why you can't just tell her that's definitely not your parcel and you hope she enjoys the shoes when they arrive today. Job done.

AddToBasket · 23/04/2015 10:51

I've sent her a message saying the parcel is still in transit and the plate is nothing to do with me.

Of course I am suspicious about this. The collection-in-person thing might have been alright (although I don't think so) but here she says she was only expecting something from me yet another parcel shows up. Does it not strike anyone else as odd that:

  1. a parcel for addressed for someone else turns up at her house (this has never happened to me)
  2. she accepts it, even though it is addressed to someone else
  3. she opens it, even though it is addressed to someone else
  4. she decides it is to do with me- though it is not what she ordered, or for her, nor has a return address with my name on
  5. the item 'she' 'received' has the same postage weight as a box of shoes thus rendering potential tracking details irrelevant as the proof of postage contains the weight but not the content of the parcel.

Am I really on my own in this?! Grin

OP posts:
Cherryapple1 · 23/04/2015 11:04

I think you are way over thinking this. She has just been sent something by someone else. End of.

I don't understand why you wouldn't accept cash on collection. Would have saved much hassle, and money.

AddToBasket · 23/04/2015 11:13

She never offered cash on collection.

OP posts:
Cherryapple1 · 23/04/2015 11:18

Couldn't you have refunded the paypal and told her to bring cash? That is what anyone else would have done.

BabyGanoush · 23/04/2015 11:18

I think either cash on collection, or paypal-post are the way todo it.

Does the buyer have reviews/stars?
