Item not arrived

Bought an item last Tuesday which was a special present for DH's birthday on Friday. Paid instantly by PayPal. There were two of this particular item I could have bought - this one was more expensive, but the listing indicated that this one woild be here by Friday last week so I went for it over the other one. Anyway, it didn't arrive and I've had no dispatch notification from eBay.

On Saturday, I sent a quick question to the seller to ask if it had been sent - no reply. Feedback is high and good for this seller so I had no worries about buying from them. I did have a weird message from eBay last Thursday saying that my item (although it didn't specify which item) was delayed due to a technical glitch and might arrive one or two days later.

WWYD? I'm tempted to leave it until the post has been today and then open a case. I know the bank hols have got in the way of postal services, but a quick reply to my message would have been nice! It was £75 too, so not an insignificant amount.

I would send another email and if you receive no reply and no item today then definitely raise a case. Is it a business seller or private?

It's only been two working days since you purchased it so you definitely need to give it a few more days.

It's a private seller. I hate hassling people as I appreciate people are busy and it's been Easter etc, but I'm fed up that DH still hasn't got his present and I've not even had a message to say sorry for any delay/not posted yet/posting tomorrow or whatever. If they genuinely had a problem posting it, that would have been fine. Just tell me! Going to send another polite message if it doesn't arrive today and open a case tomorrow if no reply.

OP paid last Tuesday & I guess postage method was something like 1st class or special delivery with 1 day dispatch.

Open a case if it doesn't turn up with today's post. Don't know what went wrong, but you need your money back.

I've never had to get money back from eBay before. How does that work? Who pays me back? Any cases I've had before have been when a buyer doesn't pay, not the other way round.

If the listing said it would be with you Friday (which I interpret as Saturday since no post Friday) then it means they have undertaken to put the item in the post the day after receiving payment. So it should have gone into the post on Wednesday, first class arrives Saturday or today at the latest. If a seller doesn't want to have postal pressure then don't state next day posting. And most certainly don't go incommunicado when you know you have items for sale. That's not acceptable.

Thank youSweet. I think that's what is annoying me the most - the fact that they have not replied to my message. I guess I judge others on the way I am as a seller, which is to turn orders around promptly, keep in touch and let people know if there is a problem. Obviously others are not the same!

How to get Money Back:

Google Ebay Resolution Centre & follow the instructions when you get to that site. It's pretty straightforward. You open a case, they have 8 days to respond, you 'escalate' the case at 8 days & get a refund via Paypal.

Or you can go to your Purchase History, click on the item, and there's a link on the side that says something like 'Resolve a problem' that takes you to Resolution Centre, too.

I would open the case now - you can always close it should your item arrive.

I have just had this issue. Item bought over 2 weeks ago, scant messages from Seller and when it had become apparent that the item was lost I had no response to my messages at all. eBay sorted it out for me.
