Buyer saying genuine item is fake WWYD?

I sold a bag last week. The buyer is saying it's fake and wants to raise a dispute with PayPal. I'm very nervous of offering a refund in case she sends back a fake in its place.

Any guidance would be much appreciated. I don't have receipts or tags as the bag is a few years old.

Let them raise a dispute, they will need some kind of proof that it's fake and if they are to get a refund they will need to send the bag back before refund is given ( so if they send a different bag back to you they don't get the refund ). I would just reply by saying where you purchased the bag from, tell them it's not a fake and if they wish to take if further then go ahead.

They will get a refund via eBay if they return a different bag. Tell them to return it in the condition in which it was sent, and once you have checked your security marks, you will of course refund in full.

Agree that you need to call their bluff and say you have security marked the bag.

agree - but if you can give as much back up as possible to the fact it is real then I would do that ie " I bought the bag in x shop in (x date) for x amount . I have not kept the receipts but I can assure you it is authentic. Please return the bag for a full refund and once I have checked the security marks on the bag that identify it then a full refund can be given immediately. Your messages will be important to show ebay if a case is raised that you have responded professionally.

lurking Just a bit of advice which may help,my friend sold a genuine Radley bag and the buyer disputed it being authentic so she took it to the concession dept in JL and the assistant wrote her a letter verifying its authenticity which was sent to ebay with other comments as to when and where it was purchased, she won her case and did not have to refund, bit messy but hey she was right all along.

This sort of thing is exactly why I would never sell or buy any high end product on eBay.
It's just not worth the hassle.
Someone once accused me of selling a counterfeit BENETTON skirt once.

Endler32 - No they don't need proof. Ebay will just tell them to return and then refund them. To protect herself the OP should have taken detailed photos of the bag before she sent it, and notes of serial numbers if they are present. so if an alternate bag is returned she can prove it's not hers.
