I bid on a jumper last night, BIN or best offer. It was lightweight, and they're charging £4.50 for postage, which is s bit steep, I didn't mention that but made an offer of £7.00 ( it was priced at £8). Just looked and she's counter offered at £7.75. 25p!? I mean what is the point. I just declined.

I had it last week with a £30 item, offered £27, they countered with £29....

I think the problem here is ebay have recently set BO as a default setting whenever anyone lists an item as buy it now. A lot of sellers don't even realise this is the case, so aren't really open to offers.

re the P&P, chances are the jumper would be classed as a small parcel if the package is over 25mm thick, and second class recorded is £3.90, first class recorded is £4.30. So £4.50 isn't too unreasonable.

I would counter offer at £7.50 on the sheer principle of the thing.

Yy, the default to accept Best Offers is really annoying - if you've put it as BIN, that's the price you want for it.

I generally untick the Best Offer price, but it does do it for every single listing unless you actively opt out. I wouldn't quibble about 50p tbh, but I have some sympathy for the seller, as it is really annoying.

I'm a seller too, have over 1300 positive feedback so I know it's frustrating but for 25p?! Most of my small parcels go for £3.20, £4.20 seems high to me.

I sell lots of jumpers and blouses when I have a spring clean and the postage on most is £2.80,if you fold them correctly and put into one of those posting bags the size is classed as a small parcel,I do think £4.20 seems a wee bit high for me,you really have to be on top of the game at the moment when it comes to postage I steer clear of obvious OTT charging and will look for another most time BIN with free P&P works out better in the long run for me when buying.

2.80 covers second class not recorded. First class and recorded is £4.30

It's easy to leave the BO box ticked. Would you rather they just turned you down no counteroffer?

currentnameinuse · 08/03/2015 19:15

You can send tracked with Hermes for £3 which is cheaper than 1st or 2nd class recorded.

Counter offer £7.25? Grin

You might meet at £7.50...
