Refund help

I sold an item on Ebay last week and the buyer contacted me to say it smells (it didn't when I posted it!). I told her to return it to me and I would refund the item and both lots of postage. I know how to refund but Paypal won't let me refund more than she paid so I don't know how to refund the return postage. Can someone help?

I don't sell a lot on Ebay so I'm not sure whether I've done something wrong and I'm really annoyed at having to do it in the first place!

you need her email address and you send money to that address as a gift payment.

But do not refund her a penny until the item has been returned to you first.

Thank you. I'll definitely be waiting for it to come back as I think she's trying it on - there was nothing wrong with the item when I posted it so I think it was just the wrong size.

There is probably nothing wrong with your item as you say it will be a change of mind thing or I've worn it for one night thing ? (it happens alot) I have been told however that the grey bags that some people post their stuff in does give off an odour and also where the packages are sorted they can be left in "smoking areas" so don't be disheartened and think it is your fault.As an extra precaution I always spray everything before packing with Deofab £1 from Savers good for shoes as well.

Thanks glammanana. It would have been as bad if she'd been polite about it but she was bloody rude - it stunk out the room apparently! I use the grey packing bags and (so far) she's the only one who's had a problem.

It arrived back today and, as expected, does not stink! There is a very faint smell that's only noticeable if you stick your nose right in and breath deeply but it's a combination of washing powder and the plastic packaging I used (that no one else has had a problem with, I've even had complimentary feedback saying how well packaged my items were).

I've grudgingly refunded, cancelled the transaction so I get my final value fees back and blocked the buyer. I'm sure she wouldn't buy from me again but I just want to make sure!

PinkSparklyPussyCat Awwww....don't let one person spoil it for you. Most people are honest and don't try it on. List your other things and try not to let the troublesome ones bother you.

I don't Ebay very often (as you can probably tell!) and it does seem to be more hassle than it's worth sometimes. I probably will list the clothes as they are reasonable brands (not designer) so hopefully I might get something back.

Buy some tissue paper in bulk on ebay and wrap clothing items in a sheet which will protect from the smell of the bags if there is one. The mail bags I buy don't have any smell but I always use tissue anyway.
